Robinho yesterday

So you are suggesting that we dont play some people in case they get injured, thats part and parcel of the game. You could take the point of view that if Robinho was playing, then all the attacking onus would'nt have been on swp and he may not have got injured.

There is no way I believe Robinho was injured. In my opinion, unless you have got a fantastic squad like the top teams, then you should always play your best team and let the next game take care of itself.

no no no
we need to progress in the league and uefa they are our main priorities at present. we haven't won the fa cup for round about 40 years so one more won't hurt. swp shouldn't have been played either but there you go look what happened. we need a full strength team for our league games as that is more important than the cup

We expect to play 60 games this season. You have to prioritise the competitions and rotate the squad at times given that volume of games. Especially with a player like Robinho who is used to a) not playing every game and b) is used to a winter break. Our foreign imports last season were burnt out by January.

We can't afford to rotate like the top sides can, but against the likes of Brighton and Forest - i'd expect it when we are in a UEFA Cup run. That our players yesterday put in 20% of their capabilities, is not a failure of rotation - its a failure of the personnel.

The likes of utd getting beat by York proves my point, they probaly made something like 10 changes, so obviously underestimated them, and the for them the FA cup is not a priority and they look at it as an opportunity to give their youth players some much needed experience. Liverpool did not have a great squad at that time and underestimated Burnley. The only reason top teams get beat by lower division teams is because they go into the the games with the wrong attitude or field understrength teams.

The top teams today are lucky that they could field two teams who could hold their own, and until we are in a position to do that we must play our best players

According to the following link he has still problems with his ankle:

Actually, they had a strong side that day. Beckham, the Nevilles, Giggs, Sharpe and the Bruce/Pallister defence all started.

And the Liverpool squad beaten by Burnley went on to win the Champions League. The Liverpool side beaten by Barnsley is still pretty much the one that is sitting at the top of the league right now.

Facts are the FA and League Cups are the least important competitions for most players and managers these days. Its not just a case of underestimating the opposition, but apathy for the competition itself. Couple that with the lower league team having their cup final and you get much more shocks now than previously.

To me the cups are as important, these are something we can win, we cant win the league and probably wont win the uefa cup. To win something, anything, creates a winning mentality. If you look at the likes of the top teams, before they won the title in recent years, you will see they began by winning one of the cups, then built on that.

To be fair, I do think that the amount of games we have played in the eufa cup has had a detrimental effect on our season, especially on the training ground, where we have had many weeks where we have lost training ground time. I remember talking to a Bolton fan at the beginning of the season, who said it cocked their season up last year.

It said yesterday he was having a late fitness test so obviously he wasn't fit what do you want him to do? play him like we did against united when he wasn't fit and ended up out for a few week. I think not, we didn't need Robinho yesterday the players on the field bar Vassell should of been good enough but they didn't try enough, people are forgetting this is the F.A Cup shocks happen it was there cup final and they deserved to win end of.

He rested key players and rightly so. Unfortunately we do not have the strength in depth, or the committed team ethos, of the top teams and so shitty teams like Brighton and Forest are able to turn us over.

As long as players like Vass are regularly picked for the first team it will be a clear indication that our squad remains weak.

Sign, sign, sign.

Guys

Anyone any idea why Robinho didn't play yesterday? I have my own thoughts on this (Ajay, o for a PM ?) but interested to hear others.
Poor WUM attempt.

He was fucking rested, as the game was not deemed important by the manager. Enough with the conspiracy theories.

I think you're taking liberties calling other's a "WUM" after that Bridge thread! Hang Your head, the Mod Squad should be ashamed you're associating yourself with them. ;)

Think Hughes wanted a chance to slip Vassel in so he could show him off with a hope of getting a good price in the transfer window --although personally I'd throw him out of any window

I heard he was shopping in the Arndale in the morning. He then went for a spot of lunch at that Brazilian place he likes in the northern quarter. After lunch he went back to his pad and had a snooze before taking his whole family out to see Australia(he also bought some popcorn and a giant bag of revels).
After the film he went back to his pad for a coffee before retiring to bed.
