Didier Drogba is next on Manchester City’s hit-list after their bungled attempt to sign Kaka - and they have told Chelsea to name their price.
City, who confirmed on Wednesday that Nigel de Jong had joined them from Hamburg for £15million, are determined to make at least one more significant signing this month.
Drogba has emerged as a rival for the centre forward position, after another bid for Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz was rejected.
City offered £15m, paid up front, for Santa Cruz, but have again been turned down by Rovers, who want £3m more.
Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari last week admitted he is prepared to sell
players at the right price and City are ready to match his valuation if there is an indication that a deal can be done.
Drogba was axed from Chelsea’s last two squads - for the FA Cup replay success at Southend last week and the 2-1 win over Stoke on Saturday - however, he is expected to return against Ipswich in the FA Cup this weekend.
Drogba, 30, aware of City’s interest as well as that of his former club Marseille, has
scored only one League goal this season.

Well after this kaka sarga every player is goin to be highly priced now ribbery is now worth 140mill apparently and heard barca are tryin put 200mill buy out clause on messi think this kaka deal has messed us up this jan.Carnt wait to c in summer if real madrid start sniffin around him dont they want him in summer after ther elections could be a biddin war in summer.Could that be what milan wants cause our orig bid was no wher near what they reported and with the fans reception they couldnt afford to let him go.Wouldnt take that long for hughes to get to spain to speak to villa would it?

I agree, but will the clubs involved increase the wages for these players to reflect their new status, and who they have probably bought for significantly less than £???m, I'm not so sure. I know if I was a player I'd be saying great, I'm glad you now rate me at £140m, I'd now like a pay rise of £??? a week please, and thanks. But I'm a mercenary and the only team I love is Manchester City.
