Rodney Marsh Talks City

I's de rigueur to dislike rodders but he shoots from the hip and a man of his time.

Anyone who I know who watched him loved him,to this day they say when the whole ground use to scream oooh Rodney Rodney, they’ve never heard anything like it even today.

All these years later he is still one of the most skillful players I have ever seen play for us.

I was very young at the time, but I think he polarised the fans. He was certainly a Kippax idol and most loved him, but there was a minority that didn't. I recall that my Dad at the time thought he was a fancy Dan who didn't play for the team and cost us by showing that attitude. My uncle, on the other hand, regarded him as a great entertainer and reckoned that the chance to watch Rodney was worth the admission money on its own.

I also remember an interview with Swales during the takeover battle with Francis Lee. Swales said that the stick he was getting at that particular time didn't compare with the abuse he took when he agreed with the management to sell Rodney Marsh in November 1975.
