Its open to interpretation, "Total cost of the deal", when talking about a player swap as well, could just mean the 2 players values added together.

Considering that selling Messi on the final day of the window is suicide for a Barca president, I can only presume that somebody wants us to think that it's Messi and watch us get excited. Therefore, I'm going for the "it's all one big wind up".

I'm not very well up on Barca finances to be honest, but the last thing I read, 2 months or so back, is that they are pretty much fine now financially.
