I can honestly say I have never watched him play. Or if I have, I wasn’t paying attention to him. So what is he? A Busquets clone? If not, where does he differ to Busquets? I can’t imagine his passing through the lines would already be Busquets level?

Point stands and will continue to stand, if it were that simple it would've been done, dusted & announced long ago - wouldn't go patting yourself on the back should it materialize in the end
If you say so buddy :)

I've watched him play, the most recent being the game against Barcelona. I wouldn't judge him on a single game but Partey cleaned up after him on a lot of occasions, It wasn't his best outing but I guess it comes down to how Atletico were set up for that game.

Realistically who is the competition? It's already pretty widely thought he's the best at it in Spain, was definitely better than Busquets last season.

So who is he even competing with? Most teams don't have someone like him as a solo defensive midfield/pivot. Matic? Fabinho in England? Witsel and Javi Martinez in Germany?

I'd argue his biggest competition is going to be his teammate next season.

Kante and De Jong are the best two at the moment probably.

Kante is about as similar to Rodrigo as Aguero is. They're completely different players doing completely different roles.

Kante could be a pivot in a midfield 3 and be the best in the world at it. He just tends to be in a 2 in a 4-2-3-1 wherever he plays, like De Jong.

No he cant because hes a destroyer and nothing else. He cant dictate play, he cant help you build up play, hes only great when you've not got the ball.

Which is why he got moved out of there as soon as a manager who wanted possession got brought in.

You simply cannot compare him to rodrigo, Busquets or De Jong.

I really like Kante but I think your seriously under estimating the skill set required to play in this specialist position. Kante does not posses the passing ability to play as a single pivot.

I see your point, but he did an alright job on us at Stamford Bridge last season.

He is not a clone of Busquets but there are similarities. The key ones are ability to hold onto the ball, accuracy in the pass & reading of the game/spaces. Defensively he is better in the tackle than Sergio but is nowhere near the passer, despite his impressive stats. He's intelligent and level headed which I am sure rank high for Guardiola

Who'd have thought Fernandinho would've been so good at it 3 or 4 years ago. He has always been a decent box to box player, and even more of a number 10 at Shakhtar, but I feel Pep has brought him to the next level.

I feel Pep could do the same with Kante, but we will never find out.

Kante doesnt have the touch to be as effective in possesion.

Watched him a few times and youtube him of course. From what I've seen he's a hybrid of both Busquets and Fern. More aggressive than Busquets, better passer than fern. If I had to choose he looks more similar to Fern with good pace. Looks like he has everything really.
I just hope the fans give him a little time to settle if he needs it.

I’ve seen a couple of games now (only on TV so it’s difficult to see positioning) but he looks incredibly calm in possession, maybe too calm (Leroy type calm) and maybe too slow at times but seems to be very precise with his passing and safe in terms of he’ll look forward primarily but if there’s not a good option he’s happy to play sideways/backwards. I think he’ll originally get caught in possession a good few times to start, especially by high pressing teams like Liverpool but Pep must think he can improve him (or I’ve just seen games were it’s stood out, I don’t know). He does seem to have a heavy touch on occasion too, very rarely but that can happen to anyone.

Defensively he looks very strong and wins the ball back very well, even if it’s just dispossessing an opposing player and knocking it far enough away that a teammate can pick it up. There is a few times he seems slow to move his feet and gets caught 1 vs 1, however he seems to recover quickly, even though he looks slow he’s deceptively quick to cover the ground. He didn’t really have much to do in the air in the games I have seen but he’s a big unit so I think he’ll be fine.

The pace and intensity of the Premier League may catch him out at first but he’s clearly willing to work if he’s prepared to come here to be the best, if he’s willing to work Pep will undoubtably get the best out of him so it’s a very excited signing for me.

60m is a steal?
60 million?
60,000,000 bargains in the pound store?

For Defensive Midfielder?

Sure all you need is any old full back for that position.

60m me ass.

(Can’t wait for him to sign mind)

Yes it is. He's absolutely fantastic and has thr capability to be every bit as good as Busquets. We're now in a market where Pogba is worth £130m, Mbappe £200m and Watford have turned down bids of £45m for Deeney.

I'd say £60m for a guy of Rodris quality in a position where we need to plug the gap is a steal.
