Imagine that, signing a solid English player to provide cover?! The small minds need exotic names to reassure them we are no longer a lower league team. Fabio Capello, a man who knows more about the art of defending and the game of football in general than anybody who posts on this forum, had him in a few of his provisional England squads, which is a compliment considering that is the one position in which we have an abundance of very good options.
I'd personally prefer Jagielka or Steven Taylor, but it was an intelligent suggestion mate, and who knows, maybe if we had the option of no-nonsense defenders we wouldn't get steamrollered every time we go to places like Goodison.
