Romeo Lavia

I know players back themselves - but when Lavia looks at the two squads he has to realise that at Chelsea he is danger or disappearing onto the bench whilst Liverpool need him to play and that has to be better for him at this point in his career. We presume that was his reason for going to Southampton instead of staying at City. I hope at this point in his career it's not about who is offering him the biggest salary - because he is going to earn plenty if he becomes the player he believes he can be.

And if these two think he is worth £60m to them - very strange that City don't seem to think he is worth the £40m he would cost us when he would also eventually slot into a club trained slot and free up another squad place.

But in any case - for a player who has played one relegation season in the PL - these figures are bonkers.

Why would Chelsea want Caicedo and Lavia? Probably just cos they can
I think they planned to replace three midfield players. Kante, jorginho and Kovačić all left. Enzo Fernández arrived last year, this year Caicedo and most probably Lavia too.

Getting turned down by Bellingham, Caicedo & Lavia all in one window (as well as Milner, Henderson & Fabinho choosing to leave) is not a great look.

Nowt to do with Liverpool as a club, but one wonders whether - with increasingly stuffed football calendars - Klopp's rock n' roll fashion of running as fast as you can for 90 minutes is losing it's charm.

FTR, I would actually like Chelsea to sign both.

I don't care in the least if Chelsea win the PL, but the self-righteousness at Liverpool annoys me (and if there is one last legacy that we will have its that we've doubled their hatred of Manchester by depriving them of the PL on so many occasions).
