Romeo Lavia

Lavia wanted first team football,he thought he deserved a chance, and its difficult to disagree with that thinking.
No he didn't.
Same as Bazunu, Edozie and Larios.
An offer came into the player and club and was accepted.
No sign of any of those demanding first team football.
I'm guessing all of them would have been happy to go on loan last season.
Southampton came in with an offer for all 4 of them.
Unprecedented

Thats the same as 50m roughly
Why wouldn't they sell to the highest bidder.
Remember we have no buy back clause.
If Liverpool bid 42 and we bid 38 but tell them to wipe out the 20% then our bid of 38 would be better for them than Liverpool’s 42.

We don't want him, simple answer to the question, we would not have accepted an offer from Southampton if the club thought he was the real deal.

We insert buy back clauses to protect us if the player does fully develop and reach our level, Lavia is a decent player, had a very decent first season in the PL, but he was still part of a team that was comfortably relegated.

The gap between the bottom and the top of the PL is huge, I think some on here forget that at times.

He was 17, I think, when he left us, and has played quite well for a team who have been relegated. There is no guarantee he will ever reach the level of Rodri, which is what he would need to be a regular for us. I wish him nothing but the best and hope that he becomes the player we believe he had the potential to become.
Not with the dippers. I wish him only misery and heartache.

Which is why a certain midfielder looks completely lost here.

That certain midfield was a proper starter on England, too. I'd love to see the academy guys get more run but the reality is that it is going to be rare for them to be able to play at the level required early in the their careers. That presents two options. The player can seek first-team time at another club or they can stay and be content as a reserve with the hope of eventually breaking through. Most take the former option and it is also beneficial for the club since it gets the revenue of the sales for players that likely wouldn't be major contributors. Yeah, it feeds the narrative that City doesn't develop but when you are pocketing more than 100 million in two years from the academy, who cares?
