Roughest grounds you've been too and biggest scraps!

Leeds 1971 - Elland Road.
The stuffed us 3-0
The undercurrent of pure menace and violence at that ground was truly frightening.
I remember coming off the ground and being genuinely scared that we was going to get a serious kicking.

The early '70's was violent time all together but Elland road was particularly bad.

Villa for me after the 5-1 away win when White scored 4...........we left the ground and found ourselves in the middle of a mob of Villa who proceeded to punch and kick us like their lives depended on it...............absolute mayhem with 10 of us in a "pwoper nawty" 20 minute running battle back to our mini-bus. I don't normally get involved in this sort of stuff but it was a real adrenaline rush and I am ashamed to say I loved it (no one got badly hurt)!!!

Looks like we've got ourselves a Danny Dyer wanna be here! :P

Boro's old ground Ayresome Park was always a rough old place to visit.

St James Park in the FA Cup about 1977 I think, we won 3-1 and it was the first big following we took to St James Park after taking the place over in 1968 (which I was too young to have been at) - there was an overflow from the Gallowgate end so the coppers in their infinite wisdom let some young Geordies into our end - cue the masses of hard blokes (and I do not mean that sarcastically) pouring into our end and kicking fuck out of us. Worst violence inside an away ground I can remember. First ever police escort for me was after that match - we fucking needed it, it was murders. Think it was third round, early Jan, freezing - you could spot us Blues, we were all wearing coats, the Geordies just had short sleeved Newcastle tops on

yes remember that one beeing 16 at the time shit myself was one of the scariest places to go.

The best story I've heard so far was my mate getting a dart thrown and stuck in his head by a Leeds fan and only realising when he got home! Roughest place I've ever been was probably Sunderland! All their fans were knobs!

Think it was Spurs or Chelsea at Maine Road when we ambushed them after the match. Like a war zone all the way back to town.

Everton away was always dodgy. Got bricked on the way into the ground

Leeds at home (think it was new years day)

The picture of the guy with the dart in his head happened at Old Trafford.
He was escorted out by the police right in front of where I was stood in the Scoreboard End Paddock.1977 if I remember correctly.

As well as the other grounds already mentioned St Andrews, Birmingham was a nasty shithole in the 70s and 80s, it was surrounded by derelict sites littered with bricks and stones and the Zulus were not shy of using them. Also it was a fair old walk (or run!) back to New St. station through some very rough areas.

Ninian Park in the FA Cup was the worst I've seen although I was at the Den when we were locked inside for about an hour whilst the Londoners had a riot outside.

good shout. cardiff in the cup was probably the worst i,ve ever seen. bedlam.
had been drinking in the rugby club, had one bow too many, boffed up,came out bogs, saw that the match was live on welsh tv and had kicked off, so made short journey to the football ground... it had quite clearly kicked off outside the ground too.... i remember a park which seperated the rugby club and the football club..you had to walk through it..i remember people being laid out on the grass, sparked out, or recovering..got to the end of the park, could see the away end across the road...pitched battles going on at ten past three, it was mental..had to tip-toe through the fighting and dive in the away end.

ugly atmosphere throughout the match, and more trouble after. happy days.

I went eveywhere in the 70s and 80s and saw lots of trouble but for anyone with two braincells to rub together it was easy to stay out of it.
