de niro said:said these things last week, had we got him in here we'd be top 4 without a doubt.
Like the huge success he had when he was at Blackburn and Inter?
Throwaway comment imho - the most likely chance we could have had of finishing top 4 this season could only be with one of the following:
Mancini
Mourinho
Wenger
Ferguson ( << wouldn't want him, of course, spit, spit )
Hiddink
Don't get me wrong, Roy is a very likeable guy and has done a great job at Fulham, as he appears to have found his 'home'.
It's about comfort zones with a lot of managers (your beloved Mark is a prime example) and there is no guarantee that they will be successful anywhere else. Some also have the ability to reach a certain level but don't quite push on to bigger and better things - only the very few reach the upper echelons. Here are some examples of managers who will reach a certain peak but never quite make it at the very top - I've tried to name their clubs where I think we have seen their best days too:
Hodgson - Fulham.
Curbishley - Charlton.
Allardyce - Bolton.
Hughes - Blackburn.
Keegan - Newcastle (1st time).
Moyes - Everton. (some will disagree but imo he will not do better elsewhere)
Warnock - Championship or lower Premiership.
Royle - Championship / lower to mid-table Prem.
