He was described as Yesterday's man in many newspapers over a number of years, I seem to remember a number on here laughing at his appointment at Fulham. Mind you what he did at Fulham since taking over late last year is nothing short of miraculous.
If Hodgson could do a job here, and lets face it expectations at Fulham are not particularly high, Hodgson also works with little or no pressure, he rescued them this season and used alot of players IMO who Hughes would probably fancy himself, Johnson, Schwartzer, Murphy etc.
Hodgson has got results by organising a great defence, hence his great record with Finland and Switzerland apparently he is fairly visionary, listened to and respected the equivalent of being a great war games player, but not really trusted in the field, he lost his reputation ironically at Blackburn.
Serves regularly on Eufa technical committees etc, highly thought of but then again so is Howard Wilkinson.
Here are some more of "Yesterday men" who could also do a fairly good job for Man City.
Bet you all LOL, but all have similar abilities to the aforementioned.
Kenny Dalglish
George Graham
Glenn Hoddle
Vialli
Gullit
Venables
Joe Royle
Alan Curbishley
Graham Souness
Martin Jol
Roy Keane
The players listed above may not be your cup of tea, but the list is fairly endless, and fair play to Al-Fayed for taking the chance, because we certainly wouldn't have.
