The royals are supposed to be a figurehead, constituionally powerless to mess about in politics or use parliament for their own gain, but.

Britain's head of state secretly lobbied for a law to be tailor-made to protect her financial investments, directly contrary to the purpose of the law being passed by parliament.
I suppose one key question from this story is: Why would it have been embarrassing for the Queen for the value and nature of her investments to be disclosed?
If the investments were as they seem mundane and innocuous a question to ask is why she requires any exemption from disclosure that doesn't apply to any other UK citizen.

Now revealedd

The royal family has used a secretive procedure to vet three parliamentary acts that have prevented residents on Prince Charles’ estate from buying their own homes for decades
Charlies £1bn Duchy of Cornwall estate was later given special exemptions in the acts that denied residents the legal right to buy their own homes outright.

Leaving many residents now living in homes they cannot either leave to their family, sell or use to borrow against as collateral.

Under the revealed procedures , the Queen and Prince of Wales were allowed to vet the contents of the bills by government ministers and approve them before they were passed by parliament.

Thought Sub forum.

Stretching the constitutional monarchy bit or not a problem because it's the queen and so above critism.

Please don't make this about patriotism or being proud of your country or to knock the country, this is solely on whether lizzie and charles have took the piss.

Let’s see if we can have a reasonable debate on the topic vs an argument about either guillotining the Royal Family or hanging republicans.

As someone who is for the monarchy, trying to be objective, it seems they do have something to answer for and if proven, they should have to apologise and give some wealth back into the system to help ordinary people.

I remember that paradise papers story disappeared pretty quickly too. I think we might need to polish off the old guillotine.

Haha, love that Ban-jani posted that about a second before me.

To be honest, I don't really understand what happened here. Why would these people have otherwise been entitled to buy these homes? Like the right to buy council houses or something?
