Maybe we decided we needed the slightly cheaper option because we are keeping some pennies to one side for a late attempt for Messi.

If Dias was our number one target it wouldn’t have emerged a week before the deadline. Why would we brief sources close to the club about KK and other targets all summer to then move for our supposed number one target a week before the deadline?

Kounde only emerged a couple of weeks ago and for us to be someway down the line (apparently) with Dias, we can assume that we have been speaking to him and Benfica for some time We have been linked with Dias since last Summer, so it is hardly out of the blue.

Or maybe last year when we were in for him bit couldn't agree a price apparently.

I have never heard the club say KK was a target only the media and sources.

Maybe Dias and KK were both consodered equally and we have opted for the one that is reasonably easier to deal with.

Makes good sense to me from the club

How’s it a gamble based on league? We’ve signed Fernandinho from Ukraine and Ederson from Portugal, Bernardo from France. Good players are good players and Dias has been on everyone’s radar for 3 years now. I’ve advocated for his signing on here before so I’ll be chuffed if it goes through. There might be a good player in Stones but we won’t see him at his best for City again, Dias would have to drop several levels to be as bad as Stones and Otamendi currently are.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s like if your a world beater in the Scottish league, are you going to be a world beater in England. But very true, a good player should be able to do it with the best of them.

The examples you gave of the other players, I was absolutely buzzing for when we signed them, because I’d seen them achieve in the CL, and barring Ederson, seen them play against City and do very well. I‘ll admit, I know nothing about this guy, so I hope you’re right.

We don't know whether Dias is slightly cheaper. Maybe he is a lot cheaper, if Napoli, Atleti and Sevilla want fees in the region of 80m. Add the expected difference in wages between KK and RB and the latter is a lot cheaper. RB may make more sense given that KK is bound to decline over the next years and RB to get better approaching his prime. As I already wrote above, at Dias' age (23) VVD was unimpressive and no big club was interested in him. To label RD average or not good enough is way premature or just daft.

The amount of fans who don't trust Txiki and Pep is astounding. They are among the best in the world in their respective roles for a reason.

Panic buy? Erm I don’t think so. The window is still open. Twitter media crap in full flow. Covid uncertainty has led us to be a little cautious on a transfer fee for a cb. Dias was linked before the other CB mentioned. I don’t see the problem, some people love a moan no matter what the club do.RagCafe that way ➡➡➡➡➡
