True. One of these players you build around. In the right set up he is immense. He is a bit slow at times and this can be exposed in the wrong defensive setup. Clearly a dressingroom leader and is probably yet to reach his peak as a CB. Alongside a fit John Stones he grows into a giant. Sadly that scenario is only likely to be a fleeting one. Overall this is a positive move by the club.

I'm ambivalent about a 4 year contract because he's regressed from his best form. A 2 year one is more prudent.

His best form was when he formed a partnership with Stones but when Stones became injured more than he played Ruben's form dropped and he hasn't got back to that form since. And if his form drops off further he won't be good enough to play in the big games even if he's vocally commanding.

We may see him in partnership again with JS but will most probably be short lived due to Stones being unable to keep fit. I think our future is Gvardiol next to Khusanov and as long as Dias doesn't start dummy spitting if he's not starting as regularly as he wants to I'm ok about it. But if he wants to be a regular starter he needs to up his game back to his best.

I like Dias BTW, just my opinion.

That’s about 5% of what a captain does. If it were more, Kyle Walker would be fine. There’s a reason we shopped him out.

Kompany was our captain long before he had an armband or a title.
