What is it with players using their First names on shirts? As bad as commentators calling players like "Trent" as though their bessie mates. Just wrong for me

Common for players with Spanish or Portuguese names because theres so few variations in surname

Bernardo also uses his forename

First names might be useful German lower league team Floersheim
Goalkeeper: Haris Kurtanovich
Defenders: Ajet Kurtanovich, Samir Kurtanovich, Imran Kurtanovich
Midfielders: Amel Kurtanovich, Anes Kurtanovich, Semir Kurtanovich, Kenan Kurtanovich, Semin Kurtanovich
Forwards: Bakir Kurtanovich, Ibrahim Kurtanovich

No issue with it when its players from countries such as Portugal who have many names, his full name is Ruben dos Santos Gato Alves Dias so picking his first name makes as much sense as picking the last part of his surname.

Different when its somebody with a bog standard single surname wanting to be known by their first name. That just stinks of ego and an attempt to build a brand.

When you actually think about it, Sergio aguero is probably the worst offender for this, he had kun on his shirt which was nothing but a nickname from a bloody cartoon. But its Sergio, he is a god and he can do what he wants.

Did anyone notice the ridiculous amount of players across both teams wearing fluorescent yellow boots? What happened to good old black boots for everyone? Just wrong for me. Took the shine off the result. Game's gone.
I like it.

It helps to identify the different players.

But Sergio didn’t just have KUN on his shirt.

It was KUN AGÜERO.

Rúben’s surname isn’t ‘Dias’ though. It’s ‘dos Santos Gato Alves Dias’.

Not only would that cost a bomb for fans to have on the back of their shirts, it would look silly. It’s longer than the 20-letter record held by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

When they let that Mexican kid the rags signed put Little fucking Pea on his back in Spanish all bets were off. We'll have a Big Nob 69 playing for us before 2100.
