Running on a treadmill

Back in 2003-4 I had a back injury and my knees are cooked from football but I managed to get in the London Marathon, I did all my training from Jan-Apr on a treadmill, less shock on my body. It was the most boring thing ever I remember one Sunday running 18 miles on the damn thing taking me over 3 hours or so, people were just staring at me as they came in for their workout and an hour or so later I'm still there, good job there was a TV to watch.q last year I did a few runs on the road up to 11 miles and its a damn sight harder.

not at all fella just my own experience

I only ever do 5 mins on a treadmill after a leg workout. Maximum incline just to kill off any remaining energy.

I prefer to run outside but I do the tread mill for a 5k run as a warm up before my weights 3 times a week. It's a mental thing treadmill running, very easy to just get off! Plus I can't run barefoot on the treadmill as it gets to hot!!

i dont know what it is but i just cant run on them, my legs wont keep in time with the belt

I would definately say treadmill running is mentally tougher than outside and it is very good good for pacing, outside running is physically harder on your legs, i set the treadmill at 2% incline to balance this, what annoys me is some outside runners kind of sneer at people using treadmills but the fact is in a lot of cases they are more practical, a combination of both is probably ideal

I don't sneer at treadmill runners, I like doing both, but there is no argument that outdoor running is far harder than treadmill running. Like I've said already in this thread, a treadmill takes your legs round no matter how tired you are.

little hint. if you do take up running on a treadmill don't turn round and talk to friends whilst doing it. It's hilarious for everybody else except you when you go flying sideways as i found out
Or forget that the treadmill slows down gradually once youve hit stop so you cant just press 'stop' and then completely stop running. My nose fucking hurt after hitting the treadmill as I flew off it. But running outside is much better.
