Ran over the South West Coast Path on friday and it was 25 plus degrees. Not for the faint hearted this heat. Will probably stick to wooded areas this weekend.

So much for my "cycling instead of running because its too hot to run" plan. I did 27 hilly miles on the bike this morning but it was too hot. :( I've been wiped out all afternoon and fell asleep for an hour.

I'm certainly faint hearted!

I could do with an ice vest like they use in the TDF !

So I did 15k this morning to avoid the worst of the heat. Then cleaned the car and mowed the lawns, in the blazing heat, and then got bored so went for another 8k at the hottest time of the day. Genuinely think I'm addicted to running.

Superb that mate. I have started watching youtube videos on ultrarunning and reading ultrarunning books. All I think about these days.

I went through a phase of wanting to do an ultra run, but I don't think I'd enjoy it as much as I think. I like to challenge myself to long distance runs without stopping, so the whole walking some stretches and even stopping at checkpoints really puts me off.

Anyone signing up for the running study I mentioned a few posts back will get a free pair of insoles and a £50 voucher. (They didn't say where it could be redeemed though, but hopefully not just on insoles).
I’m going to have a look at this properly tomorrow
The insoles didn’t work btw, if anything they made it sorer than it’s been!!

A rest of 4 weeks now to hopefully sort it out.
Well done @gaz76 on your time and nice to meet you pal.

Thanks mate, good to meet you too, great job today, that heat was tough, but not as tough as the kids dragging me into fuckin coral island for an hour of 2p machines straight after the race!!!
Just seen the results, quite a few who were down for the 10k abandoned ship at 5k, and if that fuckin steward hadnt sent me the wrong way at the end, I was 7th, might not say that on the official results but Im takin it!!

Just noted on Strava it said you were wearing Nike Alphafly. You decided to invest in a pair of those ‘cheat’ shoes? Lol

Well I suppose you could run the whole way, but I take your point the terrain and ascents, even for the best athletes, result in periods of walking and numerous stops to refuel.

My biggest issue, besides the ascents, is the requirement to be able to navigate. I can get lost walking round the local park so 50 mile runs through the countryside would be a recipe for disaster.

Pretty inspiring athletes though, and all come across as pretty humble and grounded.

Haha yep put me down for being a doper!! Ive had them a while tbh, only use them for races, not because of the cost, because of the sheer weirdness of the run, they seem a bit like ice skates as there isnt much under foot, kinda have to be shifting to stay balanced, Ive recently bought a pair of saucony speeds as well, more balance in them, much more comfortable way of cheating

Yes I know what you mean and Im keeping mine back for races for the exact same reason. Got reservations about wearing them for a full marathon but if its good enough for Eliud. Also with the design it must impact differently on the muscles you use.

Will have a look at the Saucony Speeds. Still want to cheat but be safe in the bargain.

Eliud uses the alpha fly, I think maybe they have a more balanced landing, ive a pair of tempos that have the same design and the air bubble at the front definitely gives you something to bounce off, not cheap this running malarkey but a man needs a purpose right?!

Anyone on here know what’s happening with parkrun? I’ve heard it said it’s back this Saturday but then apparently not everywhere has given permission?

AFAIK its back next Saturday, they had a certain percentage of permissions they wanted before they started up again, they past that so its all a gogo, apart from south manchester pr as theres a festival on there next weekend, the junior parkruns have been back for a while now, ive had top ten finishes in the last three!!
