HaHa apt name!

we used to go their in the early 70's after a night at the student union on Oxford St

I remember being ravenousness and gorging all this slop at 2 am, Chicken Burrianni was a favourite, god knows what was in the fucker haha

Then get the all night bus to the snipe and walk to Stalybridge

I can understand why, if you're going on the piss, you might want to head for an area where there are a lot of different options where to drink.

But I've never quite understood the logic in heading from miles away to eat a meal at a gaff, based on the sole reason that it is surrounded by loads of other similar gaffs, that you won't be eating in.

We'd usually drink around Oxford Road and then bus or cab it up to Curry Mile. I've only ever used Lal Qila in recent years because my mate always wants to go there; but my personal favourite was Mughli. As De Niro says, Rusholme isn't what it was. I think there's too many takeaways and not enough pubs.

Lal Qila has been ok. Reasonably priced and good service.

Very good point. We used to travel from work years ago, and I've made a few trips myself. Not been there for a few years now, and judging by the reports on here I won't be going again. As a matter of interest, which are the best Indian gaffs in Manchester?

Half of Rusholme is Middle Eastern now. Interesting to look when driving through but it's really on it's arse now. In saying that, you can get some great ingredients at bargain prices in the Asian supermarkets there.

I've absolutely no idea how they'd begin to turn this area around though. The Oxford Road Corridor is receiving billions of pounds of development and the refurbished Whitworth Gallery is great...but then you enter Rusholme and it isn't good.
Agree with the above, they could've turned it into more of a destination (admittedly would need a bob or two) but they didn't and it's fallen down ever since. Feel a bit sorry for the few decent restaurants there.

I think there's a lot of snobbery when it comes to curries. I'm not saying you can't get a shit curry but as long as it aint swimming in fat or they've forgotten to cook the meat properly, I'm hard pressed to tell the difference in most places, other than incidentals like the decor and politeness of staff.

I don't think I've had a dodgy curry in town since they knocked that one down, opposite where Malmaison now is.

I've been in both the ones on Liverpool Road, the one opposite 235 and an old favourite,, The Ashoka on Portland Street recently and would have no problem going back to any of them.
