Zelensky is smart. His words about NATO both put pressure on NATO and show compromise that Putin could start to think about twisting into victory.

He’s been really clear he won’t let Putin place permanent limits on them though, a country is not free if another country is dictating its foreign policy.

As is your reply tbh. The Ukranian people are willing to fight and indeed die for their country. They know if they surrender there will never (as long as Putin is alive) peace.
They will not have e.u. or NATO security, the economy is dead, buildings in ruins and a madman attacking them throughout as he has done in the South.
