Saw this earlier today when dipping quickly into this thread. I don't ever post on it now (for obvious reasons), but take a look every now and then.
I'm OK. Should be no chance of me being called up. As a foreigner here, you can serve only as a volunteer and they don't take people from "unfriendly" countries. If they start trying to persuade me to volunteer, I'll know I've got major problems.
We're a bit worried about our son-in-law, who seems to have avoided the first wave of conscription because he's over 35. But he did his national service BITD, so could easily be called up next.
Quality of life here has deteriorated thanks to high inflation and the absence of certain goods in the shops. But on the whole, it's nothing like as bad as I thought it would be by now.
