Russian invasion of Ukraine

About 3 week ago Putin himself said "Sumy Region must be Russian"
Today he says "We have no goal of taking Sumy, but I do not rule it out"

This must be after he has seen images/footage of the Russian corpses lying in the fields of Sumy Region.
The Russians in the area call them "the fields of death"

It is gruesome.

Zelensky: "The situation in the Sumy region is a major problem for the 'Russians'. They want to 'sell' success in the Sumy and Kharkiv directions because if they don’t achieve corresponding results, President Trump is likely to exert more pressure on them through sanctions.

This week, they advanced 200 meters toward Sumy, but we pushed them back by 200–400 meters. About 23% of all bombings and strikes along the front line are concentrated in the Sumy direction — mostly bombs and North Korean missiles, which are being recorded in large numbers."

He’s like the ministry of truth in 1984. There will be little or no proof that he said anything on the contrary within Russia now.
 
I may be wrong on this but Russia/ Putin have obviously calculated that Iran is a lost cause/ useful sacrifice as they clearly like/ want/ created the distraction with Israel/ Gaza as they want the west distracted from helping Ukraine.

Hopefully the EU doesn't get distracted and keeps helping Ukraine out.. the EU is Ukraine's last hope imho!

There’s been a calculation by Putin alright, but not exactly the one you describe.

He’s calculated that a compliant and subservient Trump is of more strategic value to him than a supportive Iran, especially in the current circumstances where Iran’s ability to lend its support is severely hampered.

I’d say his calculation is, lamentably, correct.
