Russian invasion of Ukraine

But....but.. everyone said he'd already been fired....

He has been removed and but kept on in a new role.

Mr Zelenskyy said he met Mr Zaluzhny today, and the time had come for changes in the military leadership.

But, he said Kyiv's top general should remain "on his team", hinting he could be given a different position.

"The time for such a renewal is now. I proposed to General Zaluzhny to remain part of the team. We will definitely win," he said.

Mr Zaluzhny confirmed the news on Telegram, saying the tasks of the army have changed since the war erupted in 2022 and "everyone must change and adapt to the new realities in order to win together".

"We decided to change our approach and strategy," he said.

"I am grateful to everyone who is with me, the general staff, the ministry of defence and the president of Ukraine."

Well that was quick.

Currently 51 Democrat senators and 49 Republican senators out of 100 in total. That probably means half the Republican party voted against the measure.

So the measure now goes to the House of Representatives - as there is no similar bill in the House for a vote.
It will be interesting to see what trad Republicans do.
