We’d like to think but we have all neglected our security, just take a look at the state of our security force, it’s pitiful.

And, trust me, I would never run down our forces, it’s the truth of where we are at.

imo (and fwiw as I’m no military expert) the only viable solution and worthwile deterrent would be something resembling a European army if the US pulled out of NATO, given the threat it faces from Russia. It might provide a relatively painless segue back to EU membership for the UK because of our relative military strength. It would provide us with the leverage that we palpably don’t presently have.

The EU Army is a pipe dream. It would just fall apart amidst bickering between neighbours who fundamentally disagree on much of defence policy. Scrapping about equipment will be a daily grind.
Alliances are much more likely to succeed. There’s one called NATO that will revive when the orange nightmare is in prison.

They can no longer rely on the US to protect our interests so someone has to take the lead. If we was still in the EU I think we would be joint leading with France but that's not the case unfortunately.

We already are walking away
Defending your nation should ALWAYS be number one on the expenditure list.
it was frozen in the budget at 2% of GDP Even though Russia, Iran, and China are increasing expenditure vastly.
Aid to Ukraine has not increased either.
Not just in the UK either.
Western democracy is fucked frankly. Indeed, the future is looking a very dark place at the moment.

China's military budget is only 1.32% of GDP... No worries
