He can hardly turn his back on him at a conference he was invited too. Also some lines need to remain open, I'd prefer they were through the UN, however useless it is.

Keeping lines open shouldn’t mean he’s bent double no need to bow down to Putin.

You are right.
However, i do feel his/Russia's continued membership of the UN somehow legitimises his actions.

Unfortunately the UN constitution doesn't allow for them to be removed.

Listened to the Telegraph's Ukraine podcast (which is excellent) today and it was said on there that despite ruSSia throwing everything at Ukraine this year, its gained 0.01% more ground than it held at the end of 2023 and the concensus is that if in 2025 Ukraine can hold what it has and the ruSSian losses continue as they are, then in 2026 ruSSia will have to negotiate
