I don't know if that is hating us - good headline writing, drawing us in to read the story - I was more likely to click on it than just "ex-footballer ..." And in doing so learnt something about the way Georgian politics is going.

The new sanctions on Gazprom amd the shadow tanker fleet have apparantly trggered this fall but as you cant trade Roubles on Western Forex Markets (due to sanctions) the fall is happening where you can trade Roubles.
The Russisn central bank is intervening on forreign markets when they open and just before the markets close but it's not stopping the slide. The best they can do is slow the slide.
But with Russians no longer able to trade in their own currency in Russia - tthe currency is now junk. Anyone buying oil and gas from them would be crazy to accept Roubles in payment - it is the equivalent of them giving Russia money.

This is good in many ways - acknowledging that the Russians can't be trusted is much better than I thought possible under Trump. There won't be a cliff edge of no-suppirt from the US.

Anyone who thinks you can trust the Russians (as in the regime) needs their bumps feeling and is completely beyond any help. It represents pathological levels of naivety.
 
The Russian Central Bank is making a massive attempt to stabilise the Russian currency where it can be traded, but it is still being sold so they have to continue intervening. This intervention is only possible till their forreign currency reserves start to tumble. The end result of this is they are giving away the forreign currency they earn from selling oil to Russia and China.
Basically they are simply deferring the economic collapse.
(BTW I used to design software for Forex trading)
 
Is there a reason why Russia haven't targeted zelensky directly either at his home or work?
