Absolutely, I'd imagine when you join any countries defence forces a part of that is subjugating your own views and feelings in order to carry out duties and orders. I'm fairly sure a quick show of hands among the combatants of most wars would show that they'd prefer it not to happen - unless of course they along with the general population have been brainwashed by their own govt to imagine the war as a noble cause.

Useful as a show of commitment/defiance to both the enemy and his people, but I imagine that piece of paper and the signatory will be reduced to ashes at some point this week. Worth noting it was an application to join the EU rather than NATO which really would put the cat among the pigeons
