Ryan Bertrand

Genuinely think Bertrand would seriously challenge Mendy for 1st choice LB. Delph can't do that because when he plays there we have to alter our whole tactical setup.

I'm torn on this one. On on hand I really rate Bertrand; as far as guys you can bring in to backup Mendy, and start for a long period of time if he has a setback, Bertrand's pretty much as good as your going to get. He's English, likely a better fit than Delph stylistically, and could very possibly be had for a knockdown price if Southampton go down. On the other hand, man...that'd be so harsh on Delph. He's been a pro since he joined, has worked hard to come back from injuries, and seems very well liked within the squad. If he could stay healthy it'd be a no brainier to keep him, it's a really tough call.

Zinchenko out on loan, Delph to stay as a utility player, Betrand in as a rotational player with Mendy.

Wonder if Delph would be ok with a being 3rd string CDM and LB. Probably wouldn't have a lot of appearances outside the FA and League cup without injuries.

i think he'd be a good signing. the main problem is squad places though. if we buy him and keep the other two left backs ( delph included) we arent going to have enough room on the bench. its going to be really difficult next season if we buy loads of new players - trying to give everyone game time.

I rate Bertrand, but I'd much rather we just brought Angeliño in to the squad.

Why? Watched a good percentage of Breda's games this season and, to be kind as possible, the lad is severely lacking. A lb that has 0 defensive intuition or ability, he makes Zinchenko look like Maldini.

Is he really that bad defensively?? I haven’t really watched him but he looks great in attack from the videos.

Angelino is far better than Zinchenko defensively

Most technical players do, but more style than substance to his game. Hope i'm wrong, i'm all for having as many academy players in the team as possible but not just for the sake of it i'd be surprised if he ever played regularly in any of the top leagues.
... I'll read this back in five years when he's the next Roberto Carlos (fingers crossed)

Delph has a few check marks and a few blemishes, but the checks have it! The main one being he is British and will not take a foreign player slot, unlike Zinchenko, whose age isn’t hurting him now. A trip to the States would do him the world of good. He is at a good age, can play in multiple positions, and would fit in well here. Conversely, Girona. Either way, he is worth keeping, because he rarely looked out of place when playing, and had a few outstanding performances. That said, for £10M, he is a goner!
If we are getting Bertrand one overseas place is displaced if we keep Delph, as for Europe there are only four association trained places. Stones, Walker & Sterling are presumable three so if Delph and Bertrand were in, one overseas place would be lost just as if Zin stayed and Delph left,

Yea would love to have him back here but can’t really argue against either. There were some rumours we wanted around £10m for him. Hope if we do sell, it’s with a buyback.

Being realistic he will probably be sold. 21 years old and in a relegation scrap in Holland. To make the step up to one of the best teams in Europe is very rare. He would have to be a mega talent and there would already be interest from other top clubs.

He's quick and is decent in the final third.

Would be very useful as he can play FB and wide in a 3-5-2.

With Southampton likely going down, he should be available for a decent fee.

4 assists in the league this season.

Delph has 1 assist, Danilo 1 assist, Mendy 1 assist and Zinchenko zero assists. Bertrand has more than all our leftbacks combined playing for a relegation candidate.

He played and won a Champions League Final with Chelsea.

Would have him here definitely. Delph can stay as additional cover for CM and LB. Though I would understand if he wanted to leave. Zinchenko to be sold.

He's excellent. Would be as good as Delph is offensively and much better offensively, also allowing us to actually use the 3-5-2 if we need to. If they go down I'd hope we'd be able to get him for 15-20 million. Maybe less.

He can also provide real competition to Mendy given both are specialist LBs. 15m would be great. Would be surprised if it’s less.
