And Dinho didn't play 'Fernandinho role' prior to coming to City :) In terms of intelligence, this guy is on a different planet compared to Ndombele. I watch Lyon games from time to time and think the latter is a fairly brainless player.

Saul is worse than Busquets/De Jong/Jorginho in terms of footballing IQ, all those 'timing and space' things, but he compensates by movement, athleticism and defensive ability.

I'm afraid this news is too good to be true, but there's at least one reason to be optimistic: Atletico have just agreed contract terms with Porto's Hector Herrera, so probably can sell one of their CMs (I'd prefer Rodri to Saul to be honest).

He has everything you need really to play the position. He's very mobile, good defender, has a bit of the Simeone shit-housery, is excellent at bringing the ball forwards, copes with pressing well, and can make some nice box-to-box runs, has an eye for a pass. Probably chips in 10 goals a season too.

Also has a ridiculous amount of experience for a 24 year old, and a habit of delivering in big games as well.

The one thing he doesn't seem to have is that Jorginho-style setting the pace of the game ability, but I think that can be taught.

The signings we " missed out " on - Sanchez , Jorginho , Fred have been a blessing in disguise - so I hope that the one Txiki finally gets for Ferna replacement - is the right on.

I think some perspective is needed too because a player who has thrived in Simeone's side for this long does not mean they are limited of playing one way but that we have only seen some aspects of his game. His vast experience (Debuted at 17 with senior team) is something that distinguishes him from just about any central midfielder on the market

I don't think you can dismiss Jorginho. Their other players aren't performing the press the way Sarri expects which leaves him overloaded. Much like our first season under Pep. When the rest of the team gets that right Jorginho will look much more assured. He is a quality player, just the scapegoat at the moment because coming from Napoli with Sarri makes him easier to blame.
 
Saul would be unbelievable in our side, there's just no way though. He's worth £100m to Atleti and given the last few months surely that's impossible at the moment.

Let me rephrase, we certainly CAN pay 100m, I just don't think we will. It's not the type of transfer we've done the last few years and the club seem, in my mind, oddly sensitive to the optics of big signings like this. You'd imagine doubly so this summer.

Actually tbf Fernandinho didn't use to play the Fernandinho role.

Not sure entirely whether Pep intends to convert Saul Niguez, but it's a possibility.
 
For that price, yes fucking please. He may not play the same position in Madrid, but in Simeone's system I have to think Pep can utilize his defensive strengths when needed, and it's not like Fernandinho was a true holding midfielder at Shakhtar. Even with Pellegrini he played alongside Yaya.

Not saying I fully believe the reports, but this would be an excellent signing if true.
 
Would be over the moon if we got him. Ndombele and De Jong ticked most boxes but he has everything.

Perfect Fernandinho replacement, can play anywhere and has everything to his game. In my opinion, the only player who can do everything Fernandinho does in terms of goals, defence, aggression, breaking up play, starting counters, covering ground, pressing, physicality, aggression, stamina, heart. He’s only missed a handful of games through injury and can cope with long seasons playing 40/50 games.

Pep demands our players run through walls; since he was 19/20, he’s been playing with a damaged kidney and been pissing blood daily. Future captain.
