Safe Standing

The dippers would never agree to this and of course I understand why. However football ground atmosphere is dying a slow death and local people and kids are being priced out the game. Safe standing could partly help to address both these problems. I don't see an issue with it and would rather stand at a game myself.

Liverpool supporters groups back the campaign. The fact the Kop remains a 'standing area' gives you an idea of what their fans are thinking.
Besides, all that is needed is for the regulation preventing standing to be lifted and then it is for each club to make that choice. No one is saying Liverpool (or any club) HAS to have standing.
What is being asked for is for clubs to be allowed the choice to decide if they / their fans want it.

football needs this. atmosphere is dying and younger/local fans cant afford it anymore. In ten years time i can see crowds either dwindling or being really old :)

Can someone explain this issue to me cause I don't get it. I'm an american and I keep hearing about "sasfe standing". I don't get what's unsafe about standing and what the actual issue with people standing is. Do you guys build your stadiums different than we do?

The 1989 Hillsborough disaster was an incident that occurred during the FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest football clubs on 15 April 1989 at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England. The crush resulted in the deaths of 96 people and injuries to 766 others. The incident remains the worst stadium-related disaster in British history and one of the world's worst football disasters.

But that had nothing to do with people standing or sitting. The stadium wasn't safe. Sitting or standing has no effect on the structural integrity of the stadium. You have to stand to walk to and from your seat so is it dangerous to go take a wee?

Correct!
A structural engineering company did a report on the effects of standing up in seated areas and they identified the three main times when a fan is at risk when standing up during a game.
1. When a goal is scored.
2. When exiting / entering the seated area
3. When moving along the row to get to the toilet / food bar during the game.

At no point did they deem it not safe for fans to be simply stood there cheering the team on.
Interestingly, the authourities DO allow fans to ''stand at moments of excitement'' which is a statement open to all kinds of interpretations. Under the Stuart Pearce final season, getting a corner was a cause for excitement!

So the authourities spend time trying to get us to sit down when we are not at risk and allow us to stand up when most at risk!

I think Manchester Blue mentioned the Hillsborough disaster in informing the previous poster why we had to change from having terraces to going all seated.
