Saints (A) Post Match Thread

Another game where we could have won 5-1 and it been a fair result. It's so frustrating to watch us dominate the game yet feel disappointed with a single goal. You know my view, I firmly believe Pep is - rightfully - sorting the defence for a real go at the CL. All titles are won with good defences and Stones and Dias look superb at the moment.

However, the more I see of us this year, the more convinced I am we absolutely have to sign a striker in January. Of course, we should NEVER have gone into this season with just Aguero and Jesus but now we can remedy that.

It's absolutely clear as day we are lacking someone who can get on the end of a good cross, get in front of a defender and just plain finish. We do not need Mbappe, Messi, Haaland in January, we just need someone who's competent and I'm convinced we will turn this season around. However, some clubs will have to sell so we need to look at the market and put some bids in.

There will be players in Europe on benches who need to be playing to get in the Euros, or even in China.

We don't need a super skilled striker, just a Goater. Someone who can read the goal and tap it in. I honestly think that a Goater/Giroud/Dzeko type player would be good enough - can head it, knows the league and needs to be playing for the last chance to go into the Euros. I genuinely think we would be better off with a lazy striker who won't run around all day, but basically goal hangs and scores. That's why I think a veteran striker would be ideal. We honestly don't need a £100m striker at the moment.

Fair play to Southampton though, they gave us a game and I liked the way they played. The manager is obviously destined for a bigger club, as many of their players are.

Next year I think Calvert Lewin can also be a good option for us. He will have 2 more years of his contract at the end of this current season. He will be good option so that our attack has more options and he is also good finisher who is putting consistent performances this year.

You can see him blowing out of his arse when up against it

How many times did we see Gundo going back to retrieve the ball, Bernardo himself in the last 20 minutes doing the same

Rodri cannot control the area around him & flatters to decieve when driving fwd he just doesnt have it in his locker, the few times he does he cant get back when he loses it

People will laugh at me but Declan Rice in a City team would look class

Engine, works like fuck, tackles & knows when to pass & to go

His transfer would be stupid but UTD will pay it & they will solve a big problem for them as hes 10 times better than Fred & Matic

Not sure about this Zackaria kid, City now need Prem proven players Rice & Grealish give us what we need add a top forward & Angelino back then I'm happy thats with or without Messi £220m max should do it

Going off covid the last 12 months + next 6 months

Rice £60m 21 years old
Grealish £65m 25 years old
Haaland £90m 20 years old
Messi free

The next 6 months are the most important transfer dealings since Pep took charge imo with a forward a must & shipping out the crap & the not good enough players will Pep swallow some pride???

Agree with virtually everything, and wish we had signed Danny Ings.

Just beat a top team on their patch. They haven’t been kept scoreless and we grafted for 95 minutes.

That’s the good news.

We should have had AT LEAST 3 DEAD CERT goals and taken the sting out of the game for the last 30 mins to save legs, as we have done for years. That’s simply not happening these days.

Game was screaming out for legs late on, and Foden would have been a better sub that FFS on the day.

Given today’s results, we simply need to win the game in hand to be in the mix. LiVARpool once again had a team roll over for them, although at least the keeper didn’t throw one in for good measure!

As always, the table mid-January will be telling. Let’s hope we don’t fuck up the next month, and start scoring goals in a hurry!

I was messing with an Everton fan about this on Saturday. He's a handful alright, would have a field day with some of the aimless crosses we float in to our midgets.

Having watched the other team matches now over the weekend , I won't attribute our dismal performances entirely to our lack of practice or Covid. Aston Villa played a fabulous game, Leicester were able to take care of the Mourinho park the bus and Low block Spurs side and Ole's rags just took Beisla team to cleaners.
Those points lost just feel like a bad dream.
Pound for pound we have a better team compared to all the other above teams. Something is fundamentally wrong with what's happening with City and no 1-0 win can mask over this fact.
The fearful part is this is now a new phenomenon but is something in the making from last 18 months.
The table right now is an accurate representation of the team that we are right and the kind of game we are playing.
We shouldn't play the injury card at least for this season because both Leicester and Liverpool had worse injury crises even Everton and look at them on the table.

The movement, decision making, final ball and shot... work on those things and we might have a chance this season.

The forwards are so static, the midfielders have very few options. Even De Bruyne is just pottering about unless its a counter attack.

Thr amount of times our forwards are stood back to goal offering nothing more than a 1-2 which gets us nowhere... movement fot fuck sake. Pass and move. It's what Pep is all about. Take the movement away and we are just Arsenal under Wenger. Trying to walk the ball in to score. The fact Pep still hasn't sorted this is baffling.

Just work on some pass and move plays in attacking areas and repeat on the pitch. De Bruyne needs to be sat deeper for me as well. He is the one go make things happen but he is wasted in a no10 role. We would be better to switch him and Gundogan. Possibly their relationship will improve over time combining with old Rodders who I will stay quiet about.

I only watched the shortened highlights on the OS but I think I have identified why Raz isn't scoring as freely as last season - he is spending too much time at Pogba's hairdresser and getting crap advice from the stylist.
