Seeing as you've only 2/3 days, I'd do NO as you'll fit everything there is to do in that timeframe. SF can occupy a full week easily to do it justice.

Done both and as others have said, both are very good - my vote would be SF.
I walked from downtown all the way to the bridge (didn't realise how far it was until too late, otherwise would have took the bus!), across and back over the bridge. Haights district and all the hippy shops was good (I went 25 years ago, the hippies were all in their 50's then, they can't still be there ha ha). Chinese quarter and Fisherman's wharf good too.

I'd have said NO had it been a different time of the year, for me it's the best food in the States. Humidity kills me so I'd head for SF in July

Concur with this. Las Vegas is one, long, smoky line punctuated with a lot of small colored lights, moving walkways in one direction (in, never out) and a lot of America's most, errrr, "American" Americans.
