For me this depends on the price and whether Rodri is staying. If Rodri stays for at least a year and we are getting Anderson & Tonali and fucking off the shitters like Gonzalez and Reijnders then it’s a really good signing.
Yes, he is not *elite*. But he’s a very good player, premier league proven who is not coming off his best season but give this lad one game a week on rotation and he is more than good enough to play on that basis in our squad. Season before last he was outstanding. Dominates some premier league games with his energy and combativeness. If Rodri stays then Rodri and Anderson are first choice. Bring Tonali in for one of them and the level doesn’t drop an insane amount like it does with Gonzalez / Reinders. For the last 2 seasons there have been games where we have been completely overran in midfield and Rodri’s legs aren’t getting younger and he’s not yet got back to pre ACL levels. Tonali and Anderson would put a stop to teams being able to run through us at will in the middle on transition.
For me only caveat would be the price. We need to get back to having a fucking top midfield with very good squad options. There was a time when Gundogan was a back up squad option and Rodri was too for 2 years… up until the last 2 seasons we’ve had the best starting centre mids and best back up centre midfielders in the league. Tonali and Anderson in would be a huge step towards that, again, that is assuming Rodri stays.

If anyone has time, watch the highlights of Newcastle United v Barcelona, both legs. Barcelona targeted Tonali in both games and just picked him apart. He simply doesn't have the legs either to close down or to get up and down the pitch at the highest level. Barcelona/Real Madrid/PSG all do the same thing now. If Rodri re-signs, we'll already be carrying someone in midfield who is no longer at his zenith, so we can't carry another.
