Sane left out of Germany World Cup Squad

Gundogan and Rudiger and Ozil are playing in England.
Trapp, ter Stegen, Kroos, Kedhira, Draxler also don't play for Bayern (who I dislike) but outside Bundesliga.

@bobbyowenquiff Sorry mate, that's absolutely no point at all and never has been.

It's also not about positions.
IF Low wanted to have Sané in his squad for his strengths, he would have had enough options to find find a lineup including Sané. He also has been switching to the right wing for City hasn't he? Or he could have been used as a great sub as many have stated several times.

Sané is on another level compared to Brandt.
If we ask what Sané has done for Germany - wtf has Brandt done??

The only point that really makes sense from my perspective is the team approach, that is key for Low.
The idea of a very strong team where every one supports every one 1000% is making the difference on the top level.

That's Low's philosophy ever since. Not a single exception can be tolerated.
There are some indications from several interviews with players and staff members, that Leroy didn't match that philosophy in the way he had to.
The consequence now is preferring a less talented and succesfull player like Brandt, who is just matching the team philosophy.

Maybe the fact that Brandt was one of the 4 dropped players in 2016 has had an influence. Not very convincing for me though.

I would have preferred Low and key players would have had a serious talk with Sané demanding a perfect team attitude.
Now we don't know if this has happened in some way. Actually I think those basics are addressed in a quite direct "German" way.

Bottom line I really hope Leroy takes some time and good advice to think about himself and his part of the sad story.
I always prefer the attitude and work ethics of the likes of KDB compared to Christiano Ronaldo.

I have watched Leroy often enough for City where I couldn't really say he has worked his socks off.
And still I love that lad and he would have been my man for the world cup.

Ok fair comment. But I didn't really appreciate the snide comments made by Hummels. Over the years City have had to endure a lot of snide comments from Bayern and I can see why so many German fans despise them. I don't think Hummel's comments will be helpful to Leroy at this time.
I have watched virtually every match Sane has played for City. He has mostly been brilliant but like many wingers he tends to play in bursts. I think his workrate is excellent but like a lot of younger players he doesn't pace himself in games and sometimes runs out of steam. This will improve with experience. He is certainly not lazy.

Maybe the difference there beside they are midfielders(Trapp and Ter Stegen don't even belong in this discussion they simply have to go) which Germany favour for their style of play/tactics is pretty much all of those players are experienced in international football and there aren't alternatives who can offer what they can(ability, experience) in the same position, Brandt and Sané are the same age with Sané perhaps slightly more experienced given the PL season and CL run he had, ability wise Sané is way ahead in my book.

More than that was the point I already made, Sané was someone everyone in Germany wanted him to stay in the league, he's a rising star getting a lot of attention bringing interest into the PL, the German FA don't like losing their stars especially to European teams that aren't members of the old guard(Barca, Real and other "established elite" clubs at the top table of UEFA).

Sorry but I feel you haven't made a strong enough argument to rule it out, he plays in a Pep team where there is no room for passengers or divas not willing to work for the team... Pep had Low's philosophy before Low so to speak. If he did start slacking off he could do as Pep would, hook him until he gets the right response from him and he'd be back in the team as demerited as ever before you know it. Even if his "attitude"(which is different from team ethic, which I don't think is the issue... he can be petulant and sulky when things aren't going well we've all seen that but most gifted forwards are that way) was a factor it doesn't rule out the German FA wanting to make a statement with the PL young player of the year left out in favour of a 5th placed Bundesliga team player(I forget how many points they were away from Bayern who had a similar season to ours), they will have weighed everything up for a decision as big as this. I doubt there was only one reason for leaving him out especially as most people would agree Sané is clearly the better of the two, they can't be that clueless that they don't see the same thing.

The really interesting bit about this decision is that if Germany do not do well, in addition to the obvious factors contributing to their poor performance, the choice to leave Leroy out will hang over Low for years to come. Both he and Martinez have built the gallows for themselves should things go tits up.

Why Martinez?

What is the popular opinion on squad choices and some of the trickier decisions?

Do we believe the managers make all the decisions and none of the FA's can influence their decisions?

or

Do they make most of them but every now and then they'll get requests or "suggestions" from above and inevitably fold to them sharpish?

I would add...

or

Do sponsors (and companies with high profile player endorsements) sometimes influence/dictate player selection?

Woy would.

Leroy's just not a German type player. He'll struggle to get into the national team unless he starts to play inside more and scores goals there. Nothing to do with attitude or age or whatever. He hasn't shone but he never will in that team. The world's best hoofballers have been knocking it down the middle or putting in early crosses for decades.
