How should he respond? We as a society driven by hysterical media seem to have made the slightly odd leap of logic into assuming all policemen are now potential rapists, rather than this horrific incident being down to the proverbial 'bad apple' that will exist in any organisation as large as the police force. There will be rapists, paedos, and murderers within the NHS, education, police, armed forces, civil service as we speak. I'm not saying it's acceptable, but statistically lightning strike or a plane crash is probably about as likely as being raped, killed and set on fire by a public servant of some sort. As ever, media coverage sacrifices a sense of proportion for sensationalism.
He should answer in the same way we reacted to Shipman, or other public failings by institutions. They need to set up an inquiry, look at the police culture, procedures, vetting etc.
Christ on a bike, it ain’t fucking hard.
