I think he's going regardless. When it becomes impossible for them to get CL football they'll obviously sack him, but even if he does, whether its through top 4 or winning the tournament itself, I reckon he'll still leave. The board won't give him the money he wants to sign players, and he knows that will make it impossible to challenge City for the title, and the following season will just be another battle for a top 4 finish, so why stick around, especially if Real Madrid are interested? Mourinho is not a manager who builds teams, he has a peak with them, then things start to slide, and its time to leave. It was an appointment that just stank of short term thinking, with no long term plan or strategy. Someone at United must have thought, 'he's Pep's nemesis, and can challenge him', nonsense, Pep is leagues ahead of him, and Mourinho knows it, which is why he's more respectful of Pep, than in Spain. He's not catching him, so why bother?
