Savic

Savic has been getting loads of stick in recent weeks, but IMO a little harshly, Bobby bought him as a work in progress, and i can honestly see why. The kid has everything(except experience) pace, tackle, heading, bravery and he can bring the ball out and play, he's been thrown in at the deep end and while some players thrive on that he's made a few mistakes, most of them have been covered by Hart or Lescott but some have cost us. Lets just remember he is young and could be a city legend, i know we can buy the best but i feel he can get to the top with city!

I sat for a couple of minutes wondering whether or not to even bother replying, because its exasperating.............................the bottom line is that Savic has not got the mental toughness to deal with pressure situations and that will never change, at some stage this frailty will let him/team down. Experience will not cure that.
Also, he can't defend......................................

Re: Savic, gonna be world class!

I seem to remember a certain player brought in by the rags who was being slagged off by all and sundry for the first 6/8 months of his tenure...His name was Vidic..

hes got all the tools to be a world class CH imo, his control, composure on the ball and passing are already there to see. He just needs to read the game a bit (ok a lot) better, get his timing of tackles against top strikers better, build his upper body strength up as he gets bullied by some of the bigger strikers out there, and he can be as good as Vinnie. You could never say the same of Lescott as, as good as a defender he is, he aint got that class/composure on the ball and his passing is poor

A 6month/12 month loan next season at somewhere like bolton/wigan (prem survival permitting) - no disrespect to these teams, but he is likely to see a lot more defensive action and hence increase his learning curve. He can get the prem experience he needs, time to build his strength up, and Savic can become one outstanding CH.

This is a thread about Savic. Just thought I'd let you know.

Yeah mate, we know. I totally agree with what the OP here states about savic. He played very well in the bayern game and his touch and passing were excellent. He just need to bulk up and improve his control of balls coming in in the air. It is apparent that he has minimal experience of those kind of deliveries and he does not know what to expect or do because he doesnt want to make a mistake. He needs to be loaned to a PL club to learn and improve on that area especially. He is quality though, no doubt.

-- Sun Jan 29, 2012 6:09 pm --

I disagree completely mate. You are generalizing way too much. How did he do so well as a fullback against Bayern? his positioning, his touch and his interception were top class. However, he has faced alot of problem with deliverys coming into him from the air with pressure from an attacker. That has been the only major problem. Thats what many of the teams have tried to take advantage of, especially liverpool against us at anfield. i dont think long passes into the box are used as much as they are in the EPL and thats why PL experience to deal with those kind of deliveries will help. He just needs to improve on his aerial control. Composure for defenders comes from an understanding of how to deal with tricky situations or deliveries and this is what he has to learn.

Re: Savic, gonna be world class!

I saw him play for Montenegro against the Czech Republic here in Prague back in November and he was their best player by a mile. This doesn't actually mean that he is any good or will make it at City but he looked composed on the ball, marshalled the defense well and all the players looked to him for guidance.
He is only 21 and needs games. I think we should send him out somewhere to get those games so long as we have suitable cover which, at the moment, we don't.

He's shit & always will be get rid of him now. I was going to say a disaster waiting to happen but it already has. A pen that was needless. A pathetic back header & he did'nt even try to get back. He stood & watched it. At 21 he should be showing promise, but not this clown.

How dya work that out to be a back header. If he'd left it it might have made it to Hart but he misjudged the flight. No way was it a back header. I fancy him to take over from Joleoninho in a couple of seasons. The lad's got Serbian steel down his back. He's the next Dave Ewing, Santamaria, Franco Baresi and John Charles - all in the one pair of boots!

Re: Savic, gonna be world class!

How do you expect a player to come straight out of the Serbian league and perform as a starter in the Prem?

Some people need to get a clue, he was bought to develop for the future, not for now.

Bayern are not in the Prem League as far as I know. Comparing apples/banana's syndrome. The boy cannot hack it here where EVERY week he's playing in a couldron of passion and scrutiny. Its either in you or its not. Star mentality/strength is something you're born with.
He may be technically proficient (debatable, and certainly not world class) but if his bottle goes then that counts for nought.....................

Re: Savic, gonna be world class!

Without a shadow of a doubt he has improved massively since he first played, i think most people would be bricking themselves playing for one of the best teams in the world in a foreign country at 21. He'll continue to improve and hopefully will lose the nervousness thats holding him back.
