Savinho extends his contract to 2031

21.
If there is a problem, it's that there are too many players of 'potential' in the squad this season and not enough first choice starters - not his fault. He could go either way. Improve of not, but it's worth finding out, imho.

He will have been on relatively low wages, so Spuds would have thought they had a chance.

Do you?

I live in hope. His 1st touch is too often a 5 yard pass. Until he gets that out of his system he'll never fulfill his potential. He should be producing at least the same as Doku by now
.
Why should he?

Savinho is two years younger than Doku, has played in the PL a year less than Doku, played in the CL two years less than Doku (Doku had a season in the CL with Rennes as well as an extra year than Savio at City) yet actually had much better creative stats than Doku last season anyway.

Savinho created the most chances in the team last season (43), created the most big chances in the team last season (11), had the second highest chances created per 90mins behind De Bruyne last season (2.3), had the most assists in the team last season (13 in all comps and 10 in the PL)… he just didn’t score that much.

I’m not saying he was great or owt - Leroy Sané averaged a goal/assist every 79 minutes in his best season with City and no wide forward we’ve got at the moment gets a g/a within 30 minutes of that - but it was a solid first season in the PL+CL at 20.

You are Savinho's agent and I claim my £5.

There’s also people in the club who signed Bony and Phillips. Not every decision made is going to be a good one.

Time will tell on this one. Personally, I’d have cashed in.
of course everyone makes mistakes, but you've gone back 10 years to find two obvious mistakes , our hit rate over those last ten years with the "few" right decisions surely outweighs your doubts we might just be right to extend ,time will tell.

He can have provide all the assists he wants but his work rate is what he lacks, he’s lazy getting back jogging most of the time. The goal against Burnley was partly his fault as he jogged back.

He needs to help defensively otherwise with Savinho on the pitch it’s a free run at our right back.

I’m just a Blue getting behind a Blue.

I’ve found the personal criticism of Savinho this season from our fanbase to be petty and insecure, that our fans should be better than. It’s time we got behind Savinho.

You didn’t personally criticise him in your post, but you said he should be producing what Doku is when he’s younger and less experienced yet actually did produce better than Doku last season anyway.

You ignoring Dias, Foden and even Cancelo (regardless of what occurred with him)? Not to mention Haalands 10 year deal?
Haaland was 5 year initially and well after those 3 and Foden slightly different being 18 youth. The 10 year Haaland deal was better for the player than the club, I know there is better sports science 20 years on, but his dad's form dropped off at 27 and when he was 30 with his he was a shadow of himself.

The point is, including the Cancelo example, you give someone a 6 year deal and a lot of players think they have made it and retire. If things go badly it is still the good life for the foreseeable future, then put in maximum effort year 5 or 6 to get your last contract or retire.

Everyone would agree he needs to go up a level or two to be a nailed on starter in Cat A games. Some think he will and others have lost all faith in him. I honestly don't know, however he now has to fight for game time with Cherki, Bernie and Bobb re the RW position. So I feel he will struggle really badly for game time this season. Successful Caraboa and FA runs could help him develop but I fail to see him starting in PL and CL games. His two big weaknesses atm work rate and finishing can improve with experience so let's just see how this pans out and when he plays get behind him 100%.

Meh. Congrats to Him I guess, when we are paying him to play somewhere else we can file it...
yeah ,he has set his life financially probably now and has achieved more than most of kids who dream about getting footballers ,ever will. I don´t thnik he is good and im not sure he ever will be ,but let´s hope so. Quality winger is still needed next summer for sure.

That sounds sensible.
Bernardo is going backwards and probably gone at the end of this season.
Bobb still not there yet.
Cherki, only a few games played and unsure where Pep will play him.
Savinho, exactly as you pointed out.

None of us know the terms of his deal, my guess is that it will be heavily incentivised for improvement and if he doesn't perform the club won't be paying him huge sums. Generally the club are not stupid,

Indeed. I think this new deal certainly changes the situation. The Spurs scenario left many of us less than impressed and his appearances this season notably against Arsenal appeared unispiring and disinterested. Now while his first season was far from a revelation his contribution was significant at times in a team in freefall. The guy clearly has potential and hopefully he can become an important part of the team moving forward. So yes fans should get behind him.
