I'm looking at getting a scooter to cut down on the cost of getting to work and back.

A 76 mpg should save £120 per month at least.

I'll need at least a 125cc as its over 30 miles round trip, north manchester through city centre to south manchester.

Can anyone suggest any reliable, ecomomical models ?
Does anyone commute this way, if so how do you find it?

I'm looking to spend £500 initially on one to see how it goes.

I've always wanted a scooter anyway really.

I fancy a Yamaha BWs 125 but they are £2500 brand new so no chance.

Could do worse than one of these. Classic design, cheap to run, easy to maintain.

Get a classic style Vespa or Lammy and you wont lose any money, just get breakdown cover if you opt for a Lammy ;-)
Them Speedfights are alright, ok so you may have to dress like a 17 year old chav but they are cheap enough and do the job,
Try a Gilera Runner, they are supposed to be ok.

ffs, don't buy a piece of shit that looks like that. you don't have to go "full-mod", but at least start your looking at something like this vespa px125

Vespa modern classics px125\et4\lx are really the ony way to go unless you are an absolute scooter head and want the pain fo trying to keep a true classic on the road.

You can get a 125 bike for around the same prices. I'd recommend that.

Edit, just seen your price range. An oldish Honda CG125 would be close to that and they're pretty much indestructible
