The brother of his teammate Michael Owen won £700 betting on Rooney staying at Manchester United just one hour before he signed a new contract. There is no suggestion that Rooney or Owen knew about the bet.

That penalty is looking all the more dodgy by the hour

was it in liverpool? a flurry of bets went on for rooney to sign a new contract and the bookies ended up pulling the plug. Word obvioulsy got out and mickeys brother lumped a big sum on.

Rooney's a bloody genius if he meant to miss the penalty, the way he can make a slip look real is brilliant..................

As for Owen, what has he done wrong? It's an inside tip, he didn't make Rooney's mind up to sign a new contract.
