I like the idea of getting it on general sale in theory, however if there are then Geordies all over the home end then everyone will point fingers at the club asking why they put it on general sale.

They do and they don’t.
We took 9,000 to Spurs last year (or year before) for the league cup, same night, they were at Fulham and took 2,000. Alright we’re a chunk of the country closer to Spurs but it’s still a long way for us.

They’ve failed to fill the away end at the Etihad numerous times over recent years. Not knocking them, it’s understandable with the amount football fans are forced to fork out to follow their clubs but let’s see how appetising a midweek game when you’re 2-0 down, at a ground where your record is shite, is.

I can’t imagine they’ll be queuing up to get in the home end whilst starting 2-0 down.

Yes. We had our biggest ever Etihad attendance against them because they gave the SSL3 back to sell to home fans the other season.

Don’t get me wrong, they’ve sold it out the majority of times but there’s been a few thy haven’t.

I Googled it, was in the Centurion season. 54,452 was the official crowd, due to lack of a need to segregate fans. They may have only just taken the bottom tier on memory.

It was a Sunday in January, the month when people struggle the most for money…
 
Newcastle have sold out already and had 10000 applications, they sold the tickets we returned, however you dress it up, their fanbase prior to last night was more up for it than we are. It’s time the club woke up with pricing that gets everyone on board, and in return the fanbase showed some passion

I remember it too. They returned the top tier. Their fans were annoyed at their own club because it was the same situation as us last night, they returned a batch of tickets even though they could have sold more, to ensure they didn’t have to pay for any unsold. That’s the system these days.

I was at St James Park about 2 years ago and we were there in about the 4th round of the league cup and had a much bigger following than last night.

Our allocation was 3,848.

You only pay if you don't sell 50+% of the last block your request, far more lenient than it used to be.

Maybe so but loads of people on here said they had tickets and couldn’t make the game. Numerous Blues kindly made their tickets available for free. I redistributed at least half a dozen tickets in my OSC Branch from people who could no longer go to Blues who could make the game. Sometimes the answer is the simplest one.

Not sure about your logic regarding segregation, given then SS3 segregation is literally just a stair case with a barrier on either side. There's no seats covered, meaning SS3 segregation doesn't affect atmosphere.

I could've sworn our largest attendance was against Leicester

Tbf to them I think on one occasion it was because Mike Ashley introduced a penny pinching policy where he declined the maximum away allocations at certain grounds, us included, because we wouldn’t give him sale or return rights or something. I think he would have had to compensate teams if they took the full allocation but then didn’t sell it out

I’m prone to the odd memory lapse but I’m sure the lesser segregation pushed the crowd up just enough to break the record. It was the centurions season and we had a good number of sell out crowds that season that in theory could have been as big if lack of segregation played no part.

Anyway we’re getting away from the purpose of this thread…
