Seat Counters 25/26

I didn’t mean to attack you as such, and it is important to show historical context to crowds, I just don’t think 1976 is at all relevant to this coming Wednesday. 40,000 was a huge crowd in 1976, it isn’t in 2026, not for a member of the so-called “big six” in the Premier League.
Fair enough, I didn't help myself by getting the Middlesbrough attendance wrong, even though I was at the game with my dad.

They probably wouldn't be allowed to do points 2 and 3.

Need to sell more Season Tickets but relax the restrictions.

The only restrictions should relate to ones that are not used regularly.

The fact that they wouldn't be allowed to do points 2 and 3 explains why fans won't come back to regular attendance, and why some more will just stop going.

It's a sterile, controlled environment that lacks flexibility and dampens atmosphere.

Newcastle crowd won’t be unusual for LC semi finals we’ve played since the takeover.

09/10 first leg home to rags 46,015, average home crowd 45,513
11/12 first leg home to Liverpool 36,017, average home crowd 47,015
13/14 first leg home to West Ham 30,381, average home crowd 47,080
15/16 second leg home to Everton (2-1 down) 50,048, average 54,041
17/18 first leg home to Bristol City 43,426, average 54,070
18/19 first leg home to Burton 32,089, average 54,130
19/20 second leg home to rags 51,000, average 54,219

Well below average crowd for 4 out of 7 semi finals.
Seems like we sell out home LC semi finals when we play the rags and/or, if there’s some jeopardy on the second leg.

I don't get why people keep talking about our League Cup attendances from years ago.

The fact is that 2 seasons ago we sold out every game of the season without fail. Now we can't sell out a game to save our lives. The club have fucked up massively.
But surely you're equally guilty by picking a season when we didn't have a single home game in the Carabao Cup?

In fact on second thoughts don't bother responding
I'm bored with discussing it.

I'll be there tomorrow.
I just hope that all the other posters on this thread will also be there and not trying to prove themselves right by not bothering

We would've sold out any home carabao cup game that season, anyone who was seat counting that year would say the same.

Fair enough if you don't want to discuss it anymore, I'll also be there tomorrow as I have every game this season. Hopefully we can roar the lads on to another visit to that place in London that we're never gonna see ;-)

You might be lonely up there mate, I originally had them up there as I am on the cup scheme and that's where my ST is , however decided to move to try somewhere else. From what I can see the only tickets sold up there have been to season ticket holders on the scheme, they haven't been on sale for anyone else so would expect a very small crowd up there unless 1000's have been given away.
All my pals are going up there as they did for the Gala game so I am optimistic. It is mostly season ticket holders on the cup schemes.

When I think of League Cup semi finals I always think of the United one in 2010
We were just emerging to overtake them as top dogs in Manchester.
The atmosphere and hype, Tevez v Neville and Fergie, Mancini losing the rag

Compare that to now, where after 10 years of unprecedented success the mood at the club seems dismal.

Success breeds apathy, unfortunately. I was at the 81 league cup semi v Liverpool when Kevin Reeves had a perfectly good goal ruled out. The atmosphere was electric, I was getting crushed in the centre of the Kippax so moved to that open bit next to the north stand. Different age.

Bluemoon is only one section of our fanbase with an older demographic. I don’t believe for one second that the mood at the club is “dismal.” The ground will be rocking tomorrow and there will be a huge number of younger local fans as it usually is for League Cup games. Being miserable is a self-fulfilling prophecy for some posters on here. I’m not having a dig at you because I don’t know your circumstances.

Social media is an unhealthy and non-representative place.

The ground rarely if ever rocks, the atmosphere is generally abysmal bar the few in the south stand.

I was 18 and although there'd been previous wankers such as Kirkpatrick in the 70's that from my spot in the Kippax/North stand corner was a shocking decision and with only a few better moments our decisions have gone downhill since.

45+ years of shite/bent officials near enough and it's getting worse.

I am very optimistic about City because we are very close to re-building a new successful side.

There are a lot of local match day fans who are make up for missing seasoncard holders in midweek games, esecially at Champions League games, but the League Cup Scheme numbers must be lower than the CL scheme and I don't think a midweek League Cup game, where City are 2-0 up, has the excitement to pull in many locals or match-day fans.

You are an endangered species on here, always positive but the habitat has been changed by invasive species. One response is to change habitat. Just to conserve yourself.

It depends if we are winning or not. I wouldn't say it was abysmal but it is getting worse. I put that down to a changing fanbase. The older fans were brought up on the Kippax terrace with all the songs. The newer fans, don't even know the words to the songs. It could be fixed and it is down to us. The atmosphere is what we make it. Young people can be energetic.

Yep the twat, the Kippax was going berserk and took ages to realise it had been chalked off. They also scored from a dodgy free kick if I recall.

Disagree. To name just a few games off the top of my head:

Hamburg, QPR, Aston Vila in 2022, Home v United on many occasions.
Liverpool in January 2019, April 2022, April 2023.
Bayern Munich, Real Madrid.

Thanks Marvin. I try to be positive about football because I have a lot of negative things going on in the rest of my life. I understand why people are frustrated at ticketing and transport but i think there is a malaise in the whole country. I was on a packed bus with Spurs fans on Sunday night. They had just seen a great match but most of them were drenched from the rain. I spoke to some and all they wanted to talk about was "escaping from London" which they described as "a shithole." They were also moaning about tourist fans and daytrippers! These were local working class Spurs fans who lived in Edmonton (where I stayed overnight). To be fair the area is desperately impoverished (as bad as anywhere in Manchester). But, for me, football is an escape so I try to be upbeat.
