Seat Counters 25/26

In a fucking nutshell!

Never mind though, shitty international crap gets 2 weeks every 6 weeks to play a game or 2 in mild conditions, most of us couldn't give a shit about it.

Certain PL Clubs get 2 home games during the holiday period whilts others (us) get 2 home games within 4 days just as everyone is switching back into work mode.

The random fixture calendar is the most corrupt and manipulated aspect of the modern game.
Last bit especially true. Same 10 teams had 2 away festive fixtures on the bounce, look at the teams who had home ones. Big fiddle this year.

Christmas, New Year, Sales, back to work after the Christmas holidays, 3 matches a week, PL, Carbao Cup, FA Cup, CL matches starting again soon, the 2nd leg at the Etihad, it’s on TV, etc.

Unfortunately there are just too many football matches shoehorned around the most expensive time of the year. Something has to give. It looks like it’s Newcastle away in the Carabao Cup.
True.....
And it also shows we don't have thousands of fans waiting in the wings for chances of away tickets. We just don't, despite what gets said here sometimes when tickets are in short supply for certain games.
Fanbase has grown no doubt, but the hardcore home & away is largely the same people it was 10+ years ago.....
I'm one of them and I'm not going Newcastle....no excuses, just can't be arsed with travel, time off work, hardly any mates going etc....

Couldn't agree more

Our PL.home attendances have never been this consistently high, but it's a student/tourist/family-orientated new demographic who pick and choose their games, and are less interested in the midweek fixtures, (particularly the CL) and even the early kick offs are an inconvenience

As for away.games, when I first started travelling regularly our numbers would vary from match to match and season to season.

We must have taken 8000+ to Bramall Lane for that 4-2 defeat in 91-92 but less than 3,000 for the following season's 1-1 draw.

It was the same at Maine Road where Newcastle and Sheffield Wednesday both brought 10,000+ in 83-84, but considerably less for their next visit

However that was when most grounds were nowhere near to full capacity and with cash-payment turnstiles you could literally make a last minute decision on whether to travel

Everything has since changed and groups of young football supporters are no longer able to ask their mates "Do you fancy going to Leeds tomorrow?"

That process is beginning to take its toll as the ageing hardcore start to pick and choose their games and the next generation aren't in a position to replace them

Away games are now selling at much lower points criteria and ultimately (not just at City) they won't sell out.

A friend, who is a saeson ticket holder is not able to make the game today and has just transferred his ticket to my son. He has the email but can't download it, anyone have any ideas why?
Is he a matchday member? Or is he on your friend’s Friend and Family list? He would have to have been added during the recent window.

Yep. All correct.
We're aging out & the replacements aren't there. It's a different match going fanbase for the younger age groups. And we don't have enough of those that do a few away a season to cover games like this when the likes of me give it a miss.
And yeah we had some pretty low away followings BITD.
Cant have been much more than 1200 at Boro in 2007, similar at Newcastle the week after when Mpenza scored.
We've taken less than full allocation at Chelsea more than once in the mid 2000's.
And further back I've been in away ends at Newcastle in mid 80s with about 500, we had 2 pens behind the net. And Chelsea early 90's Monday night similar numbers

In most other circumstances we’d sell it no problem. Loads of games this month certainly gonna stretch people’s finances

No doubt money & the time of year is a factor, but I think it's more apathy from regular away fans & lack of replacements for them.
Newcastle will sell out easily for the game at ours......as we would have easily without the success we've had which makes a semi final a bit meh. E.g the Aguero goal for Arsenal league cup game there in 2011. There were 10k+ at that

The crowd v Liverpool in the SF in 2011/12 was 36k. One way of looking at it, assuming the second leg sells out, is that we've added a few fans since then. Though that game was the first leg so it's not an exact comparison.

Weren't we also playing United in the FA Cup the previous Sunday?

However you're right in that we'll definitely get more than 36,000 for the Second Leg.

That reminds me of umpiring a Derbyshire Cup Cricket Match, the Sunday after we'd beaten Forest at Wembley last season

I arrived just in time to hear one of the home players (who was obviously a Forest fan) berating City for ruining the occasion by not turning up in big numbers

I politely asked him how many times Forest had played at the new Wembley compared with all the Semi Finals and Finals and Community Shields (plus two PL games) that I'd attended

Then I gave the **** out LBW first ball.

Exactly correct.....I had to read that twice to make sure you said we best Forest at Wembley last season....I honestly didn't even remember it, though I went.
