Seat Counters 25/26

Must have been thousands who bought tickets then didn't go. From my seat in Colin Bell level 3 I'd guess attendance of @ 40.000.
About 47000 looked about right. About 3000 missing in the away end with the front 10 rows covered up, lower tiers pretty full,East Stand upper pretty full. Colin Bell upper half full. Obviously also some no shows because of the trains shutdown.

I heard accents from all over yesterday, including families from other parts of Northern Europe wearing City scarves.

Yes we don’t have the support of Liverpool and Man U and that’s just the way it is.
Most of the new residents of Manchester in recent years follow City. The working class areas have never been more solid for City. There were lots of local families and kids yesterday. It was fantastic to see though the match was poor. The future for our club is fantastic.

I was encouraged by the size of the crowd and the young families at the game. Some / many were local. Others were from further afield. I don’t really care as long as they support City.

Sometimes there is assumption the families are local at games like yesterday where the audience is 99% white but we have families of Blues who will travel a fair distance for games. There were 2 Norwegians sat behind me.

Half and half scarves were banned from the 93:20 lounge but it was very busy with Blues. Another encouraging sign and showed the Club can listen to the fans.

There could have been more Blues in the ground. I had a couple of spares but couldn’t transfer them. I made sure season cards from a friend were used though.

The game was bang average but feeble refereeing and a flat atmosphere played their part. The exception was a couple of blocks in South Stand Level 0/1 that did a great job getting behind the lads.

Agreed. We will never have a huge plastic fanbase across the world like Liverpool and United. Of course we have grown our global fanbase, especially in the USA. But I believe our core support home and away is still authentically Mancunian. The demographic of the city has changed but we have hoovered up most of the “new locals” and all their families. Cheap and creative ticket pricing is crucial though. The older fans will die off but we must keep our local identity at all costs.

You very rarely see empties at anfield or OT to be fair
They also don’t have the problem of leaving early like ourselves, unless they’re getting hammered
Not sure about your last point, every stadium has it's early leavers, we just seem to be making an industry out of it. The Fulham game was a prime example, many say they leave early because they want to get back home earlier on a work night, but it was a 7:30ko, so that's half an hour earlier than most night games, but the same people around us left 10-15 mins early as usual. Genuinely believe for many it's just a habit that has formed over the years.

He can’t have been to Anfield much. Plenty leave early, apart from the biggest games. The transport there is worse than the Etihad. For most matches Anfield is the quietest stadium in the PL. City fans have always arrived late and left early. Drinking played a big part in the Maine Road days.

Great points Bobby. Yes, maintaining the local links are essential. Where this isn’t happening, Soriano, de Vries and Wilson take the flak and sometimes deservedly so. I also think some of our historical puritans need to take a bit of responsibility too.

By this I mean the quashing of the legend of Anna Connell and our 1880 origins for historical purity. The former was integral to the Club’s marketing when the intention was to be local and global. Sometimes historical facts can get in the way!

The future of of club COULD have been fantastic but with the opportunity to hoover up every young kid in the northwest city have well and truly fucked it up chasing the here and now ££££

Great post. Said exactly the same mate. Im on the fa cup scheme and c.league scheme simply for purposes of me getting final tickets.
The only other reason is my youngest is 13 and I simply cannot bring myself to say sorry mate dont fancy it anymore. Have to do my parental duty to my boys. Despite this I do feel fatigued with the amount of football there is. As you say when it becomes a chore to go to something I have been doing for 40 plus years then maybe its time to reassess.
I have only missed 4 away games this season and these are a different matter totally. I love the away days, just a different vibe so I wont be scrubbing these anytime soon.
The club needs to listen to the feedback on the ticket transfer policy. This is stopping fams.who cant commit every week from being able to go when regular attendees cant.
Even if we draw another prem team away in the FA cup I'm giving it a miss whoever it is ,funny thing is if we draw a lower league team away I'm going to be first on the bus .

Disagree with you. Lots of local kids at games this season. A lot more than recent years in fact. I agree that ticket prices are too high but in my area of Lancashire City (and Liverpool) are the main club for youngsters. I have families who teach in Chorlton, Newton Heath, Cheadle , and Timperley. Their classes are dominated by City fans. I got the rare train back to Blackpool last night. Full of young City fans. Perhaps you need to go more than twice a season.

Met up with various groups of friends yesterday before and after the the match ,we are all footballed out and desperately need a break from it .
It's becoming a chore and not something we are enjoying at the moment.
Yesterday was also the day we decided to come off the cup scheme,I don't enjoy home games anymore 19 is enough ,if something comes up I will just buy a ticket ,and just do any interesting away games against non prem teams .
Might be different than some but tickets at £1 won't entice me ,just too much football.
You've turned into a proper grump since retirement ;)

We sort of agree youngsters want and are becoming city fans ,it's the club's job to get them into regular match attendees and that is something city have made no attempt to address,
It's fine giving cheap seats for fa cup games probably loads came enjoyed it and want to come back ,
But guess what when they ask dad can they go the next game at Dad £60 kid £40 what do you think the answer is ??

Good post overall mate.
And yep, I was in 017 for a change yesterday and were a few lads in there keeping the singing going for the full 90.

You’ve made a really good point. It’s all well and good getting the kids in for cup games. But what about league games or champions league games. I barely see any groups of young lads attending league games now. I’d say The average age of the block im in is about 60+

Once those kids turn into young adults it becomes completely unaffordable for most. Currently there isnt a clear way for the next few generation to attend regularly

I agree that we need to do a lot more but I’m more optimistic for the future. Next season will see 4000 new season tick holders with 2000 ringfenced for youngsters thanks to the new stand. Let’s see what the prices are.

I only keep the cup scheme for the 600 points I’ll plummet down the criteria if I was to lose out on them every year

The away end had to be paid for.
So hopefully it cost Neville and the wankers money,
Next time forget the rags and let Salford folk have a fucking day out.

But what if that City fan turns out to not be a City fan and infact a fan of the opposition? One who has signed up and got a supporter number?

I know for most games that is unlikely but it is something that City have to consider too.

I'm not saying it is right or wrong, but there are two sides of the coin.....
They don’t care about that when they sell tickets through third party ticket tout companies and people from anywhere and everywhere can get tickets with no checks at all on whether they’re City fans or not (and they’re very often not).
