So ... we sold Javi Garcia and replaced him with Lampard, a 36 year old attacking midfielder.

Now we have just one defensive midfielder in Fernando Reges.. and he got injured .. I don't think he'll be out for long .. but what if he does suffer a long term injury .. how will we cope without him ?

In case you forgot, we had Javi Garcia last season .. he played many games towards the end of the season.

I was under the impression that we needed two players in every position. Somehow we have three attack minded midfielders and just one defensive midfielder.

Didn't Yaya play this role for Barca?

Wasn't Vinny a midfielder when he first came here?

I don't think selling Garcia was a mistake, £14.7mil or something?
good riddance.

How did we cope with him not playing last year except near the end?

Though we need Fernandinho to come back to form again, he is average for months now.

our defending was bad for most of the season .. but it didn't really matter because we scored so many goals in every game .. 156 goals is a british record.

now i'm not sure if we're going to sweep aside every team .. the players look tired and it's always difficult after a world cup.

you can't really keep both fernandos and Javi, Javi wouldn't get lot of games, and with knowing Negredo might move we had to sell someone to collect money for his replacement.

We'll be fine. Fernando and Fernandinho should do it, Mangala coming at back, should be enough.

We weren't fine today. Conceded a stupid goal and lost three points at home.

Yeah, Javi would stop it probably. Because we never conceded stupid goals while he was here.

It could have been unless we bring in another decent central midfielder before the end of the window. Sorry to see him go as he had won me over with his performances in the second half of last season.

We were restricted in what we could have personnel wise in both numbers and positions for assault's in Europe and on the domestic front so Garcia became the person surplus to the restrictions we were under.

He was also the player with the most currency that could continue to play with a club qualified for Chumps League.

It was a good deal for both parties although I suspect Garcia will leave Zenit before his contract runs out.

If he wanted to stay and we could accommodate him at the expense of someone else and the question remains who then although his opportunities would be fairly limited injury to others notwithstanding then we would have.

These issues almost always arise after a loss and a loss we normally wouldn't expect but these happen and they will happen to all the sides considered in the running for the title this year.

If we can beat Arsenal and Chelsea it would be considered a fairly reasonable start and while talk of Garcia will soon fade to grey its pure speculation as to whether he would have much of difference to yesterday's outcome.

These decisions as to who to let go and who to bring in are ongoing all the time and some we will regret bringing in and some we will regret letting go.
