If memory serves me, the last train back to Wigan that day was earlier than the last train back to Manchester so the Wigan fans booked on trains had no chance but to do one straight on full time. It was bad enough for us fretting about whether we'd make the last train home and if it had gone to extra time and penalties we'd have all been fucked.
The FA don't give a shit about the travelling fan by having the final kick off at teatime. They try to cover themselves by urging fans to travel by coach instead of train, but once they've got you on Wembley's coach park it's just a free for all getting off afterwards with no escort to the motorway and it can take fucking hours just to get out of the area. The year of the Wigan final, we travelled to the Chelsea semi on one of Bredbury's coaches. Never again. The match ended just before 6pm - we got back to our coach and then had to wait about half an hour or so for 3 or 4 gimps who had gone AWOL before setting off, at which point we were virtually the last coach off there and straight into a load of standing traffic. At 9pm we could still see the fucking Wembley arch through the window. I'd consider a coach/minibus option if it was parking up elsewhere, ie: Watford, but not one that parks there.
