Sergio Agüero - 2018/19 Performances

Hat-tricks can distort a players stats to a slight extent. A player could theoretically score 18 goals in 30 games, but if those 18 goals came in 6 hat-tricks he wouldn't have scored in 80% of his games. As it stands Aguero has failed to score in 14 of the 27 league games he's started this season, which I find pretty surprising.

Why on earth would you take out the hatricks? do those goals not count?

They are included in the fact thats it 2nd worst goals to game ratio.

And was pointing out that 10 goals in the 26 games he hasnt scored a hattrick in isnt great is it? and points to an inconsistency in his scoring this season. Simply put he should have more.

He is tied for the golden boot and his overall goals haul is absolutely fine,i don't understand bending stats to suit an arguement, perhaps i'm not clever enough to get it

Sergio has a free pass for the rest of his career as far as I'm concerned. But every penalty he takes that are shown again (like on the 'On this day' feature, he always puts in a small stutter before striking - so I really wonder what happened at Spurs, did he deliberately change strategy or did the occasion get to him and he just forgot?

He’s just shit at pens. Always has been and always will be.

He’s not shit at pens. He’s mostly excellent at pens. He’s scored 78% of all of his total 55 pens and mostly slotted those home right in the corner where ’keepers can’t get them.

Here’s league pens from the most regular takers around Europe:

Okay he’s no Lewandowski (90% in all comps at all clubs) and certainly no Yaya (15 from 15 in his career, perfect record!) but he’s still right up there with the rest of the best behind those two.

I never trust him from the spot. And if Kepa would of saved the one he should have he would have missed his last 3

For a designated penalty taker, he is poor. I may be saying that because we’ve been spoilt with the likes of Elano, Mario and Yaya in recent years. I’m never confident when Sergio steps up to take a penalty.

His record in the PL is good and holds up against any other player from Big 6 teams.

Scored/missed last 3 seasons (16/17 - 18/19) in the league from Big 6 teams:

Milner 11-1
Kane 11-2
Aguero 10-1
Hazard 8-1
Pogba 7-3 (18/19 only)
Aubameyang 3-1 (18/19 only)

Aguero all-time Premier league is 24-4 which compares well to the likes of Kane 18-3. Balotelli is 23-5 in league games England/France/Italy.

He's not mostly excellent - the worldwide average for penalties is either 75 or 78% depending on source. He's completely average at penalties.

An excellent taker would be significantly above average.

The problem is that we don't have another good penalty taker since Yaya left. If KDB, Bernardo or Sterling could step up and add that to their game we'd be better off. With VAR coming in we will get more penalties so the importance of having a good take will go up.
