It's strange how you can misread a match that you're actually watching, because you're so bound up with following the ball and being terrified every time the opposition gets it. I will admit that I thought he'd done almost nothing last night, until I realised that he'd bloody nearly scored two goals, either of which would have been brilliant, but for Schmeichel.

That might be an interesting discussion. We all certainly have beloved players from yesteryear...most of which were shit, apart from that late 60s/early 70s Mercer-Allison era...but the level of the football today is literally light years from then, and for Sergio yo do what he has done, against the players he has done it? Well, that’s simply the best.

The one caveat I might give you is that the pitches of yesteryear were bogs after Christmas with any rain, while today’s athletes play on snooker tables.
