Sergio should go down more easily. Discuss

ashley young dives in the area because he is shite and a bottler , and hasnt got the ability to finish a goal scoring opportunity , sergio stays on his feet because he is one of the best finishers in the world , and he knows he will score.

Very interesting point now it's brought to my attention.

However, there's a fine line between diving and going down easily. Unfortunately, due to the cheaters in the game namely Ashley Young, going down easily will be determined as diving and therefore he'll be punished for that. Sometimes it will win penalties or free kicks, other times it'll cost us more than you expect.

Say for example you could go back in history, if Sergio was the type to go down on the final day of the season in injury time and did so. In doing so won us a penalty... Would you have been just as happy to win the league with one last penalty as much as in free play?

Plus imagine the media difference. At present, it's quite nice knowing we won the league in its most 'spectacular fashion' rather than we won the league by 'a last gasp, desperate penalty in the vein of united'.

I don't advocate any player to go down easily.
I know that it's part of the modern game but in my opinion it's cheating. Call me old fashioned or what ever you like.
I feel so strongly about this that even if we were 0-1 down against Real Madrid in the final of the European Cup, and we had an opportunity for one of our players to dive in the penalty area I would be disappointed if he did.
Besides I think Sergio does more damage by staying on his feet.

For a so called "south American flair player" Aguero puts most English players to shame with his honesty, infact, no Mario has gone, we have a really honest team who don't go looking for free-kicks like some, and with the Derby soon upon us, it's going to be very much in the spotlight, even Moyes has waded into the debate, and fair play to him for what he said about Young, so we should have a dive free game then, hopefully!
Take last nights goal scoring incident, Aguero could easily have gone down, possibly resulting in a straight red, but he only had one thing on his mind, to score or set up someone who can!

When I saw last night's first goal from another angle (pretty much what their GK saw), I was amazed. For several reasons. One, Sergio did not flinch, did not slow down one bit, even though their defender hung onto his shirt so tight it looked like coming apart. Two, Sergio didn't even notice the dirty koont! Three, he was able to shake him off, speed up and pass the ball in a neat way. GOOOOOOL

In short, Serg is a lovely lovely man, honest to the bone and a great striker.
What's a goooool???

They hide in attics and rattle pipes.

I think going down under challenges easy has got to such a state now that defenders anticipate it.

This is where Aguero can be clever and use his strength and stay on his feet, as he did for last nights assist for Dzeko.

I'd rather a direct opportunity at goal with 2 forwards against 2 defenders, than a free kick 40 yards out pinged into the box hopefully.

I think people are not getting what the OP is asking. Should Aguero go down when he's fouled, or should he try and stay on his feet even when there is no advantage to be played? If the ref is doing his job right, then we should get the freekick if there is no advantage, but there are times when this hasn't happened for one reason or another. I think he should pick his moments, there are times when he absolutely doesn't need to go down and is better of staying on his feet and trying to battle through. But there are also times that he's been fouled and he's used more energy and lost the advantage by trying to fight through. It's a very interesting question, tbf.
