Serie A 2016/17

3-1 to Juve. Harsh on Torino and Hart, with a bit more luck they could have nicked it but Juve are a very good team

Rumours that Roma are set to appoint Monchi as their sporting director. Good move for them if true, he did a great job at Sevilla.

The Roma fans could do with sorting their act out too. Their ultras were attacking police at a fixture against Atalanta a few weeks ago.

A brace for Dzeko tonight, in a 4-0 win against Fiorentina. Important result for them.

I was lucky enough to be at the game, it had been simmering during it, Roma fans lobbing flares over the fence and a lot of posturing. I believe there is a bit of history between the two sets of supporters.

Realised I hadn't posted about that trip so a quick recap.

Me and my old man arrived in Bergamo on the Saturday and drove to Verona and got to see a fairly dull game between Chievo and Cagliari. The city of Verona is very nice, but the ground is a dump. They've still got signs up advertising Italia 90, and I'd say very little has been done to the ground since then. Poor game (Chievo won 1-0) which wasn't witnessed by many, maybe 5k but ended up sitting with a group of Charlton fans and had a good laugh, mainly getting angry that Jonathan De Guzman had decided to wear the number 1 despite being a midfielder. Little shit like that bothers me. Like Germany you can have a beer during the game which was a nice bonus I wasn't expecting.

Had a good evening and the following morning drove back to Bergamo, dropped the car off and had a wander around the town. Again, pleasantly surprised with the city, quite a nice historic old town on the top of the hill. Didn't have too long to look around so may go back at some point. Wandered down to the ground for Atalanta's game against Roma.

As hinted at, it was a bit tense between the supporters, but it made for a good atmosphere. The first banger the Roma fans threw was not expected and I thought a bomb had gone off - it was so loud! Much better game, the fans were just about kept apart so I didn't witness any trouble, and Atalanta deservedly nicked it with a penalty late on.

Wasn't able to soak up the atmosphere around the city afterwards as we had to get the train to Milan for the main purpose of the jaunt, La Derby Della Madonnina - AC Milan v Inter.

The stadium for me, is second only behind the Bernabeu. Impressive in size, from inside and out. It takes an age to walk up the spirals (a good 10 minutes) but once you're up there, its a great view and you still feel quite close because of the steepness. The third tier at least could probably benefit from a few more toilets and food/drink kiosks but luckily I only needed a piss once and managed without food or drink. Both sets of supporters Choreos were impressive, with Inter having about 6 or 7 variations at some stage, before and during the game. Inter were the better side but were getting beat until late on and a draw was the least they deserved.

Getting back after the game was somewhat of a disaster. There is a fairly new metro line which terminates at the ground. After the game 80k people tried to get back on it. We had a beer to let it die down and if anything the queue had grown. We had another beer and the same problem. It was absolutely pouring down, but we decided to walk to Lotto which is a station on another line. I think its supposed to take about 25 minutes but it was nearer 40 as we didn't know where we were going and made the mistake of following a United fan (from Cardiff), so we were pretty miserable by the time we found it. In retrospect though, I loved the experience and I'd do it again.

I didn't fly home the day after, but to Germany instead, and managed to get to Munich to see the Allianz lit up in Blue (for 1860), then Dortmund for their 8-4 win against Warsaw, City in Mönchengladbach, and finally Schalke v Nice. Good trip but cost me a few bob.

I see Edin is now top scorer in Serie A - was always capable of that. excellent centre forward who continues to score important goals.

Just glad he never went to a prem league competitor when he left us

Thanks for your post mate. Sounds like a great trip.

Torino currently 1 down against Fiorentina. Should be about 5 nil, some cracking saves from our old boy so far.
