So how would you do it

We lack natural width, and so you'll need to bear with me hear, but how about the following

GK: Joe
RB: Zabba, WRM: Balo
LB: Clichy, WLM, Nasri
CB: Kompany, Nasty

DM: Barry
CM: Yaya
AM: Silva

CF: Dzeko

a 4-5-1, the wide players stay wide (touchline hugging). CF position dictated by aerial threat (and allowing for the fact that sergio and carlos need a break as it aint going for them)

Re: Setting ourselves up differently

Mancini needs to change his style ie introduce fast wingers into our game as it is key to breaking down teams like sunderland and reading like last week defending all day long.
We can stretch the game and we struggled for being too narrow in the prem and the champs league.

Re: Setting ourselves up differently

Same formation (4231),just adjust the players in the system.
(e.g) because of silva's frustrating one-footedness he cuts in from the right,So play him left side of the 3 midfielders , Nasri on the right imo and then I think Tevez in the No.10 Role.
Nasri started right side of the 3 in the game against Newcastle, and it was by far his best performance in a sky blue shirt.

I don't post much but i read LOTS :)

Re: Setting ourselves up differently

Balotelli isn't a winger.

in effect that is 4 4 1 1 with a striker and a midfielder playing as out and out wingers, tevez and aguero not playing and ya ya having to sit deep as in effect it would be a 2 man central midfield, the lack of width as been somewhat overstated as the reason to our problems

Re: Setting ourselves up differently

------------------ Hart --------------------
--------- Kolo --- Komps --- Nasty --------
Maicon ------------------------------ Clichy
-------------- Milner ---- Barry ------------
--------------------- Silva -----------------
--------------- Tevez ----- Balotelli --------

This way Silva gets a free role, it allows tevez to roam and Balo lead the line. Also Milner and Barry can offer protection to the back four.

Re: Setting ourselves up differently

3 playmakers (at least 1 with the capability of scoring 15 goals a season like Nasri did in his last season with Arsenal) behind a lethal striker (like Chelsea with Mata/Oscar/Hazard behind Torres except he isn't particularly lethal) would suit our style of play well but never going to happen because we have 4 strikers and 2 playmakers!

Re: Setting ourselves up differently

Mancini tactically is a fairly poor manager imo, He has a system and he uses it every game, does not change to accommodate different types of games. Sometimes its fine to stick with it if you are playing well and everyone is on form but at the moment its predictable, trying to play through teams with little width. Fast wingers are necessary in some games in the premier league, teams needs to be stretched otherwise defences will be packed. Benitez did this straight away at chelsea, instead of playing the way other managers did with Hazard - Oscar - Mata who are all playmakers and like to be more central, he took one of them out and put moses in even though he may not be better than the other 3. He gives width, direct running and pace which balances the attack more. We do not have that at the moment adding to the fact the strikers can't score many if at all. Until Mancini starts to progress with his tactics and think of new ways to improve the team then teams will stay as they are packing defences making it hard to score.
